“Everyone here is fine.”

“Loukas? Amelia? Zach?” I ask.

“Zach and Amelia are fine,” she replies, and I place my hands on the ground beside me, pushing myself up, or trying to, my arms are weak.

“You used too much magic trying to heal Sky,” Breanne says from behind me, and I whip my head around to look at her, cursing myself for doing so as it begins to swim.

“That’s why I haven’t teleported us yet. I need you to be at full strength when we get there.”

“Get where?” I ask, sitting back down and putting my head in my hands.

I look up in time to see Skarlyt and Breanne share a look.

“What? What happened?”

“Antonia attacked Aryn and Lucien’s pack, taking two of their children. Loukas was going to sacrifice himself for them when I left. That’s why I need you. I need you to convince him not to.”

Panic begins to set in at her words and despite my wooziness, I stand. “Take me now.”

Skarlyt shakes her head. “I don’t think you have enough magic just yet.”

I spin and look at Breanne. “Give me some of your blood.”

“What?” she asks, horror on her face. She’s offered me blood what must be hundreds of times when I was injured in battle because of its healing properties. But each time I turned her down, explaining the addictiveness that vampire blood has on sea nymphs. Because we are healers by nature and the main thing that vampire blood does for other supernaturals is heal, sea nymphs are extremely susceptible to becoming addicted.

“I need it,” I plead, walking closer to her.

“I’ll give you some,” Rayne supplies, stepping closer to us.

“No,” Both Breanne and I exclaim at the same time, making Rayne’s eyes widen and step back.

“No offense, Rayne. But vampire blood is already addictive to my kind. If I had vampire blood laced with that of a goddess…” I let the possibilities hang in the air. She raises her hands and steps back.

“Are you sure?” Breanne asks, already pulling out one of her blades.

“I am. He’s my mate and he needs me. Just promise me never again.”

“I can’t promise you that,” she says, staying her knife. “If you truly need it, you know I won’t be able to say no. What if you are dying and it’s the only way to save you?”

I let out a sigh. “Fine. Only in life-or-death situations.”

“Deal,” she says, sliding the knife down her wrist and holding it up to my mouth. My gums ache, my teeth shifting into razor-sharp points as the smell of her sweet blood taints the air. I latch on quickly, the coppery taste of her sliding down my throat, filling me up, the power spreading through every nerve ending in my body until I feel like I can take on the world. But even then, I don’t stop gulping.

Not when she tells me that’s enough.

Not when Matt tries to pry me away.

It’s not until Rayne slices my leg with a blade of her own that I release Breanne’s arm, spinning to hiss at Rayne.

“Yeah, you’re angry,” Skarlyt says. “Use that.”

She grips both Rayne and me by the arms and teleports us away. I’m still hissing and snarling at Rayne when we land in the middle of a familiar forest.

“Pearl. Loukas is over there.”

At the mention of his name, some of the fog lifts from my brain. All thoughts of getting some more of Breanne’s blood fade as I swing my gaze toward my mate. With my extra little boost in power, I notice a few things very quickly.

First is that my mate is walking away from everyone and toward who I can only assume is Antonia and her cronies. The wicked smile on her red-painted lips tells me she’s getting exactly what she wants while everyone else behind him is just letting him go.
