Next, there are two small children running full tilt toward the barrier and the pack. I wait until their little feet are firmly on our side before calling out.

“Stop!” I command, my attention going right back to Loukas.

He spins, his eyes going wide as I begin to walk forward.

“Pearl,” he whispers.

“A deal is a deal, pet. You swore an oath to your goddess. What would she think of you breaking it now?” Antonia sneers.

“I wouldn’t worry about her,” Rayne says, waving off the monster of a woman.

“And who are you?” Antonia asks, focusing her attention on the snarky hunter and me.

“Who am I?” Rayne asks, going into performance mode. I’d roll my eyes if I wasn’t going to enjoy this. “I am the granddaughter of Artemis, the Goddess of the Moon you were just talking about. I’m also a vampire and a hell of a fighter, but it’s not me you should be worried about.”

A few gasps go around Antonia’s coven, but surprisingly she keeps her cool.

“I’m notworriedabout anyone,” she declares loudly. “Who exactly do you believe I should beworriedabout?”

“She means me,” I declare.

“You?” Antonia says, mocking in her tone, and a smile on her face as she looks me up and down.

I nod my head. I am not the showman Rayne is. I have nothing to prove to this woman.

“Why would I be concerned about you? You’re nothing but amermaid. What are you going to do? Sing me to death? I don’t see any water around here for you to fight me in.” She laughs as she talks, the rest of her coven joining in. “Come now, pet,” she coos to Loukas, reaching out a hand for him.

“If you lay one finger on mymate, it’ll be the last thing you ever do.” I step forward, nuzzling into Loukas’ side as I finally reach him.

“Mate?” she questions, looking back and forth between the two of us.

“Antonia. I’d like you to meet my mate, Pearl. Mytrue matethat is,” Loukas says, finally getting over the shock of me showing up here.

“What? How?” she sputters before ending in a deep scowl. “This is a farce,” she says, pointing her bony finger at me. “He knows he’s mine!”

A tall man walks over to her, rubbing her arms up and down, obviously trying to soothe her.

“Looks like you have a mate of your own to worry about. Why don’t you go obsess over him and leave mine alone,” I tell her, still feeling like I could take on the world and win.

“Why, you little,” she says through clenched teeth. She flings herself toward me but is stopped by the pack’s barrier. “I’ll get him one way or another. He was mine first and always will be mine. I can wait forever. I can take as many children as I need until he decides to come back to me, and hewillcome back to me.”

I don’t get the chance to say anything. The next thing I know, a blur races past me. Before I can make out the form of Rayne running a blade through Antonia’s throat, she’s already coming back to stand beside me.

I glance over at Rayne as she wipes the blood off her knife.

“What? She just threatened to kidnap as many children as she wanted to get him back. You should be thanking me.”

I look back at Antonia, watching as she desperately tries to stop the blood flowing out of her throat. What surprises me is that not a single person, except a man who I assume is her brother, rushes toward her.

“Come on. Help her. She’s your high priestess,” he cries, his magic rising to try and heal her, but it doesn’t work like that.

“He’s also going to hold a grudge,” Loukas whispers to Rayne, and I shoot him a pointed look. “What? If he is alive, he will always want revenge. We will have to look over our shoulders for the rest of our lives.”

I glance over at Rayne who raises a brow in question before looking at Antonia and her brother. Anthony is glaring at Loukas and me with blind rage in his eyes.

“Do it,” I tell Rayne.

She doesn’t wait, just blurs forward, sliding the blade of her knife across his neck as well, leaving them both bleeding to death in front of us.
