I call Trish and beg her to come over. While I wait, I take the world’s longest shower, shaving my legs extra carefully. I look at the razor. Should I shave another place too?

He’s probably used to women without any hair below their head. Maybe I’m unsophisticated because I still have pubic hair. Then again, it didn’t seem to bother him last night when he was eating me out.

My face heats up at the thought.

I finish the shower and get dressed in my usual comfy clothes, checking the clock. Trish will be here soon. I’ll have to save the over-analysis until then.

When she arrives, I drag her upstairs and show her the dress. “Oh my God. That’s gorgeous. Where did you get it? It looks spendy.”

“It was a gift.”

“A gift.”

I nod. “From a man.”

“A man sent you a dress,” she repeats. “Who is this man? Why didn’t you tell me about him last night?”

“I met him last night.”

Her eyes bug out. “Where? At the concert? Was he backstage? Start at the beginning.”

I go to the liquor cabinet. I’ll replace the parents’ booze before they return from Greece. This is necessary. I pour us each a drink. “Yes. I met the man backstage at the concert. He’s...he’s...Griffin Grimm. And he spent the whole night with me. And he sent me this dress with a note about the limo picking me up tonight for a Valentine’s Day...something.”

“You lost your virginity to Griffin Grimm?”

“Not exactly.” I take a sip of the whiskey. “We did...stuff, but I fell asleep and he wrote me a song and left.”

“Griffin Grimm, theGriffin Grimm, wrote you a song.”

I hand her my phone. I took a picture of the lyrics so I wouldn’t ruin the paper accidentally. Trish enlarges the photo and reads.

“Why didn’t you have sex with him?” she asks in wonder.

“I meant to! I fell asleep.”

Trish looks at me like I’m crazy. “You fell asleep while Griffin Grimm was in your bedroom?”

I shrug. “I guess I was more tired than I thought.”

She shakes her head, still looking at me incredulously. “You’re unbelievable.”

“Will you help me get ready?”

“Fuck yes.”

Trish helps me with my makeup and hair and then I slide into the red dress. How he got my size right, I don’t know, but it fits perfectly, though not something I would normally wear.

As I adjust the dress, Trish says, “You look amazing. Griffin is going to lose his mind when he sees you.”

I feel a flutter in my stomach at the thought of seeing him again. I can’t believe I met Griff, let alone that he’s interested in me.

The sound of a car horn honking outside breaks the moment.

“That’s probably your limo,” Trish says, and I realize I’m going on a date with a rock star.

For real.

I go outside and a driver is standing on the porch. “Where’s Griffin?” I ask.
