"Why does it seem like he's not going to let us leave?" Asher asks.

I lean in close. "If he really didn't want us to leave, he could have claimed the lawyer never sent the NDA, right?"

Asher shrugs off the blanket and pushes back his chair. "I guess so. I can't just sit here with dirty dishes on the table, in any case. My momma didn't raise me that way."

"I would help, but I already know you won't let me."

"Nope."

"That's okay." I lean back in my chair and enjoy the sight of him piling dishes into his arms while wearing only a towel around his waist.

He catches me ogling him and grins. "I'm not your type."

"You might be growing on me." He's totally grown on me. So much that I'd rather stare at him than the actual pop star in the house.

His smile softens and I look away, emotions overcoming me.

"Your clothes are in the dryer," Jaxon says as he walks back through. "I'll just get the NDAs off the printer and you'll be all set."

He pauses on his way past and notices Asher at the sink. "I thought I said don't clean up."

"He doesn't listen well," I say.

"Well, thanks," Jaxon says. "I'll be right back. Try not to have sex on any more surfaces."

I start to get up from the table, but Asher is there in a moment. "What are you doing? What do you need?"

"I just want to grab my phone off the charger and make sure I haven't missed any calls from my sisters." Jaxon let me borrow a phone charger before dinner.

Asher gets my phone. "You've got no signal, either. If they've called or texted, you won't be able to receive the messages."

He hands over my phone and I check it to see that he's right. It's after eight in the evening and they all know I went out for a run with Asher. At home we all kind of do our own thing, and I really have no idea if they'll be worried about me.

They'll probably just assume Asher and I grabbed dinner together or something. Unless Barley is wreaking havoc, everything should be fine.

"Alright," Jaxon says. "I've got NDAs."

He sets them on the table and hands us each a pen. Asher signs his without even reading it.

"What the hell, Aldridge?" I ask. "You could have just signed over your first born child."

Asher's brow creases. "Why would Jaxon Hayes want my first born child?" He hands the contract to Jaxon and goes back to washing dishes and loading the dishwasher.

"Wow," I say, watching him but talking to Jaxon. "You could have just taken Asher for everything he owns."

"I don't own anything," Asher says.

I grab the contract from Jaxon, then read through both contracts line by line, asking Jaxon for clarification when I have a question. Lucky for Asher, his contract is identical to mine and it really is nothing more than an NDA. I'm no lawyer, but I don't see any loopholes or room for Jaxon to take advantage of us. As long as we don't reveal his presence in Catalpa Creek or tell anyone he's Bigfoot we won't get sued for everything we own.

I sign my contract and hand them both to Jaxon. Asher has finished up in the kitchen and joins us at the table.

"So," Jaxon says. "Want to play a game while your clothes are in the dryer?"

At his words the dryer beeps from the other room. Asher immediately heads that way.

"Guess that's our cue to leave." I smile at Jaxon, who looks surprisingly uncertain for the first time all evening. "Guess you'll be glad to have your house back."

Jaxon clears his throat and says in a low voice. "Please stay."
