“Katie? What is going on?” Liam asked again.

I stopped immediately. My body froze in place. Forcing myself to turn to him, I said, “I think I’m pregnant. And I don’t know whose it is.”

I banged my head against the tiles as I stood under the spray from the rainfall shower head, letting the water wash over me. I was so fucking lost. Katie and I weren’t getting better. We were spiraling into the bowels of hell.

And it was my fucking fault.

I didn’t know what the hell I was thinking. She was fucking raped. Brutally so. He’d dislocated her hip and shoulder, and she’d been torn vaginally. Yet, the first time she made any sort of move toward me, I went fucking feral on her.

Twisting the faucet hard enough, it popped off in my hand; I clenched my teeth and whisper-screamed under my breath. I pitched the broken faucet on the vanity. I watched it bounce around on the counter until it dropped to the floor.

I grabbed a towel and walked out of the bathroom, expecting to see Katie still in the same spot—sitting up in bed with her laptop. When I crawled out of bed, she’d been working on something. We hadn’t spoken since the day before, so I didn’t know what she was doing. Hell, she could’ve just been avoiding talking to me for all I knew.

“Katie?” I called.

Silence.

Hmm.

I looked around the room and in the walk-in closet; even though she would’ve heard me call out to her. She wasn’t anywhere to be seen.

At least she’s not ignoring me.

I walked to the windows that overlooked where Katie’s SUV always sat in the driveway. It was missing. Grabbing my phone, I texted her, praying she’d taken a couple of the team with her. The fact we were still clueless as to where those motherfuckers were baffled me, but until they were found, she and I would have to deal with being under lock and key.

JACKSON

Where’d you go, sugar? Do you have people with you?

The ding of an incoming text drew my attention. I glanced around the room again, hoping she’d not left her phone behind. Katie’s MacBook was barely hanging onto the edge of the bed. I walked over to the bed to rescue it.

Picking up the computer, I noticed she’d left iMessages open. When I picked it up, I didn’t intend to invade her privacy, but my eyes lit upon one word, and all good intentions flew out the window.

My guts churned as I read the messages. My soul was ripped from my body.

LIAM

Your test results came back. Your suspicions were correct. You are pregnant. You were also right about the timeframe.

Are you okay?

KATIE

Not really. Can I come see you at the hospital?

LIAM

Absolutely.

KATIE

Okay. I’ll be there soon. Do you want me to meet you in the same spot as yesterday?

LIAM
