“I was trying to find something to give the family as a baby reveal,” she said as she bit into a piece of pineapple, juice dripping down her chin.

I pressed up on my palm to lick the tangy sweetness from her neck and face.

“What’s a baby reveal?” I asked.

She laughed. “It’s when you tell people you’re expecting.”

I would never understand some of the shit women talk about and do, and I said as much. “What’s wrong with just saying, ‘Hey, Katie’s pregnant’ or something?”

“Because it’s not cute or fun. It’s boring. Plus, I think we and the family all deserve a little happy happy joy joy.”

I smirked.

“Don’t you dare say it,” Katie warned.

“What?” I feigned innocence.

“Jackson…”

“I can’t help it. You threw the door wide open, baby girl. You know I’m always up for some fun times.”

She shook her head and changed the subject.

“I was scrolling through some baby stuff on Pinterest and found a list of must-have items for twins. It’s overwhelming.”

Her face showed just how overwhelmed she was. Chuckling, I took the empty bowl from her, sitting it on the nightstand once I placed the lid on it. She huffed, so I kissed her for several minutes to distract her. When I pulled away, she looked blissed out.

“Much better. And stop worrying. This is Vivian and Matthew Holt’s first great-grandbaby, Lillian and Walker Holt’s first grandbaby, and Olivia, Evan, and Ava’s first niece or nephew or both. You know what I mean. We will have a plethora of help getting ready for our little ones,” I explained.

“Right,” she sighed.

Then she sighed again. Then again. I waited her out.

Finally, I asked, “Better?”

She nodded. “Yeah. You might need to keep coming up with that logical stuff. That list is scary,” she said.

“We will get through it together. What do you feel we need to do first?” I asked.

“All of it.” Her voice rose an octave as she answered me.

“How about we look at finding a doctor?”

“Oh! Where’s my phone? Liam sent me some names he trusts,” Katie said.

I grabbed her phone, plugging it into the charger since we’d gotten distracted when we got home. I handed it to her and sat beside her to look at the screen, too.

“Are your texts on the iPad?” I asked when the phone didn’t immediately power on.

She nodded, setting the phone down, and took the tablet from me. She tapped the screen until she found the list of names.

“Liam said they were all accepting patients,” Katie told me as we looked at the names.

“Do you want to stay in Seattle?” I asked.

She swung her head toward me. “Your family is there,” she stated.

“I know, but you and our babies are my priority now. If you want to get away from Seattle, we will,” I told her, trying to let herknow that if the proximity to Conrad was too much, I was willing to put space between her and him.
