Huh.

“So I’m spiriting you away, but with your permission.” He smiled at me uncertainly. “More of a surprise than a kidnapping…if that’s okay with you?”

I couldn’t even try to hide the smile on my face as I snuggled back in my seat. “Fine by me.”

About ten minutes after we left the motorway, Sebastian was pulling into a small airport. “Are we flying from here?”

“Yep,” Sebastian said, pulling into a parking space. “It caters mainly to private jets.”

I bounced in my seat excitedly. “Oh my gosh! Are we going in Toby’s plane?”

Sebastian laughed, kissing the end of my nose. “No, sunshine. We’re going in mine.”

An hour later, we were in the sky. In the intervening sixty minutes, I didn’t think I’d managed to close my mouth once. Everything, from waltzing through security, to being greeted on the plane by name, all of it had surprised me.

And that was before I’d even seen inside the plane itself. Luxury didn’t cover it. I didn’t know what to take in first—the massive flat screen TVs, the full-sized dining table, or the gigantic seats that looked comfortable enough to sleep in.

Not that we’d need to. I almost died when I peeked my head around a closed door to spy a king-sized bed. Sadly, we hadn’t had a chance to explore it yet.

Turned out that all the luxury in the world wasn’t enough to help me cope with turbulence. I wasn’t a nervous flyer per se, but when it was rough like this, my anxiety got the better of me.

“You doing okay?” Sebastian asked, peering at me over his glass of champagne in concern.

“Okay?” I squeaked as the plane bounced again. “No, I’m not okay!”

A member of the cabin crew started to bustle over at my protest, but Sebastian waved her away.

“Come here.” He put his glass to one side, patting his thigh.

“Is that allowed?” I whispered. It wasn’t that there wasn’t room—the seats were more like sofas when compared to usual airline seats.

Sebastian snorted. “Who the fuck cares if it’s allowed? If you want to sit on my lap then you sit on my lap.”

I unbuckled my seat belt slowly. “What if we crash?”

“The pilot is highly trained.”

“What if something goes wrong with the plane?”

“Do I look like someone who skimps on things like this? This jet is top-of-the-line, and goes through checks and maintenance before every flight.”

Getting up from my seat, I quickly crossed the short distance between us and flung myself onto his lap. “What if a missile or something hits us?”

“In that case, you should definitely be on my lap.”

“Even you can’t protect me from a plane crash, Sebastian.”

His fangs lightly grazed my neck, making me shiver. “I beg to differ, sunshine. If something happened, I’d mate you within seconds. Even a plane crash couldn’t take us out then.”

“Flying might be a little less stressful when we’re mated then. I don’t know why I get anxious, statistically it’s the safest way to travel. And travelling like this is far better than the budget airlines I’m used to taking with Leo…”

My voice trailed off when I noticed Sebastian was staring at me, mouth agape. “What?”

“Did you mean that?”

“About the budget airlines? Come on, Seb, I can’t imagine you’ve ever flown on one, but even you must know this is tonnes nicer.”

“Not the airlines,” he said impatiently, his hand cupping my chin. “You said ‘when we’re mated.’”
