“Mum, Dad…this is Sebastian. My fiancé.”

To say they were shocked was an understatement. The last time we’d FaceTimed, I’d been a shell of my former self, because he’d broken my heart.

Sebastian had cringed when I’d warned him he might not get the warmest welcome, his nerves bubbling through the bond.

Apparently, even grumpy vampire assassins got nervous when it came to meeting the parents.

I wasn’t worried though. Just like Leo, their top priority was seeing me happy. And with Sebastian now permanently part of my life? I’d officially transcended happiness and was smack in the middle of cloud nine.

Sure enough, by the end of the visit, they were sold. All it took was them seeing how Sebastian hung on my every word. The stories he told them about my baking and ever-growing yarn addiction.

When he promised them he’d bring me over as often as I liked, budget be damned, Mum flat-out started sobbing again.

“You’re sure they liked me?” Sebastian asked anxiously as he unlocked the hotel room door. We’d declined my parents’ invitation to sleep there, instead booking a hotel nearby and promising to visit them the following day before flying home.

I thought Sebastian would’ve been happy to, but I had other plans for tonight. Plans that did not involve any family members within earshot.

“They adored you,” I said, rising to kiss his cheek. “You’re nowhere near as unlikeable as you think you are.”

Sebastian grumbled, opening the door and gesturing for me to enter first. “You have to think that because you’re my mate.”

My mate. Once upon a time, I’d dreamed of the words ‘my husband.’

Now I was going to get both.

I wasn’t sure what I’d done to deserve Sebastian, but he was mine.

And I was never ever giving him up.

My eyes widened as I took in the room. “Cripes, Sebastian. This is too much.”

The four-poster bed was decorated with light ivory gauze that caught the breeze from the open window. To the side was a seating area with several chairs and a sofa covered in countless cushions grouped around a low table. On the table was a bottle of champagne nestled in a bucket of ice with two tall glasses beside it.

My mouth watered as I spotted the charcuterie board, loaded with all my favourite meats and cheeses. For dessert, there were two small dishes of cheesecake, along with a plate of artfully arranged chocolate strawberries.

Best of all was the fireplace, a roaring fire crackling merrily away and bathing the room in light and warmth.

“Nothing is too much where you’re concerned.” He kissed the back of my hand. “Let me spoil you a little.”

“I don’t need to be spoiled.”

Sebastian’s exasperated affection echoed from his face to my chest. “I know you don’t need it, but you want it, yes?”

My cheeks burned and he laughed.

“Aww, sunshine. You can’t hide from me, not with the bond. I know you love it, really. Come on, let me spoil you a little. It’ll make both of us happy.”

“Okay.” I didn’t even try to hide my smile. What was the point? Like Sebastian said, there were no secrets between us now.

It was handy having the reassurance of knowing exactly how he was feeling, but it was going to take time to get used to knowing that the bond went both ways.

“Want to take the champagne and strawberries into the hot tub?”

“There’s a hot tub?” I squeaked. “How much did this place cost?”

Sebastian rolled his eyes, tugging me in the direction of the bathroom. We stepped inside to see a bathtub large enough to fit five fully grown men. Around all the edges bar one was a deep ledge. “You don’t need to worry about things like that now, Matty. I have more money than I know what to do with.”

I’d spent the last few months mostly ignoring how Sebastian earned his money, but this mention had it slamming to the forefront of my mind. I shifted on my feet, unsure how to broach the subject.
