“Storm, River!” I bark at them. “What the hell are you doing?”

Storm looks up at me with her daddy’s raven black hair and swirling grey eyes. “Mummy!'' She lets Ares go; he’s lying on the floor in some kind of chokehold that the twins have got him in. She runs at me, throwing her arms around me as I lift her to my hip. She’s too big to be picked up, but I still can’t resist. “Why are you trying to kill Uncle Ares?”

“Mummy, he said I can run the club when he dies!”

“Ah, he did, did he?”

Dad chuckles from his seat at the bar. “He did. I heard him myself.”

“Well, maybe Uncle Ares should learn to watch his fucking mouth!”

“Mummy, you said a bad word.” River looks up at me.

I smile down at him. “Mummy’s allowed. I’m the Reaper, after all, but if I hear you say a bad word before you’re eighteen, I will typewriter you till you stop.”

River grins, jumping up onto Ares' chest, causing an “Oof” to fly from his mouth as he starts to typewriter Ares. I shake my head.

“Hey, I called you to help me!”

“I did help you. I halved your problem!” I grin down at him as River sits on his chest, shouting “Ding!” and slapping him around the face.

He has my dirty blonde hair but the greyest eyes, and he has his dad’s dimples. Looking at both of my children, they’re a gift from the gods, and I don't know what I did to deserve them. My heart swells then breaks all over again, knowing he will never see any of this. I stroll over to Dad, placing Storm down and slapping her on the behind. “Go help your brother!” Ares “Oofs” again as Storm dives on him.

I shake my head. He and Scar never wanted kids, but he’s definitely the fun uncle. Scar took some time to come around. She would look, pat the babies on the head, say “Cute,” and walk off, but now they’re older, she dotes on them. Ares always says he's glad I had kids, as until that moment, he was totally on the fence, but now my children are growing up, he knows he made the right decision in not having any. Arsehole!

Tank pushes through the door with Tray following. Tray’s always been a quiet kid, but the minute he sees Storm, he just lights up, and she can get him to come out of his shell.

“Tray!” Storm shouts. “Help us. We need to drag Uncle Ares over there!”

They all pick up his legs, and he starts thrashing. “No, someone save me!”

“You're such a dick!” I laugh at him as the kids have his leg in a death grip and are trying to drag him to the back door while he tries to scoot along, helping them. “Where are you guys taking him?”

“Your office,” Storm informs me. And my eyes shoot around the room. “Why my office?” I grimace. I mean, the kids know I work in an office, but they've never seen it and don’t even know where it is or what I actually do.

“I heard Uncle Blade say it's where you take

people you want to kill.” River informs me.

“Uncle Blade said that, huh?”

“Yeah, and Uncle Viking said it's in the barn!”

Tray tells me.

“Well, fuck! My brothers are fucking idiots!”

“That's a lot of bad words, Aunty Ray!” Tray

nods.

Tank and Cade laugh behind me, and I glare at

them both. “Not helping, guys!” I thought it would be years before they knew what we did. I know they don’t really understand, but my brothers need to be more careful. The door opens, and ruckus laughter fills the air as they all walk in.

“Mummy, it’s those fucking idiot brothers of yours.”

They all freeze in shock at the words that have just come out of Storm’s mouth. “You're in trouble!” Tray points at them.
