“I knew it.” I get up and start pacing. “I knew it was too good to be true. There’s no way someone like you would actually like someone like me. Was I just a fuck? Shit, I thought it was more. I thought you loved me. I know I love you, shit; it was just a fuck, wasn’t it? I can't believe I was so fucking stupid, I thought I’d found my forever, but I was just a fucking fuck.”

I kick the chair I was sitting on, and it skittles across the tiles before hitting one of the other tables.

“Viking! Can you please fetch that chair and sit down?”

Feeling like a scolded child, I snatch the chair and sit back down. Carmen rises from her chair and comes to stand in front of me. She grips my jaw in her hand and lifts my chin to meet her gaze. “I love you.” A whoosh of breath flies from my mouth as my shoulders sag. “I love you, Viking, you’re not just a fuck, you could be my forever. I just have a hell of a lot going on, and I'm distracted. I'm sorry.”

“What about Tali? What's wrong with her? Is it Ray?”

“She shakes her head but then says. “Partly, but she and Roach broke up.”

“Do you know where he is?”

She shrugs.

“Carmen, he's missing. Ares has just said he went into the barn. Ray followed him, and only she came out.”

Carmen shrugs again, which is a weird reply for a woman in charge of a cartel. She’s got nothing.

“Have you seen Ray?”

“Viking, I need to get on. I'm so busy. Can we talk later?”

“Carmen, what the hell is going on?”

“Wherever Roach is, I’m sure he’s getting what he deserves, and that’s all I need to say, so we will talk later, okay?”

Fuck. I storm back into the villa and pull out my phone. “Ares, something sketchy is going on. Carmen says Tali and Roach broke up. I told her he was missing, and she didn’t care, then said she’s sure he’s getting what he deserves. What the fuck does that mean?”

“Brother, that’s what Dane and Skye said… What the fuck did he do?”

“While Carmen’s distracted, I’m gonna talk to Tali and see if I can’t come up with something. Keep me in the loop, Brother.”

“Will do. Be careful, okay? We both know what Carmen's capable of. Don't go kicking the hornet's nest.”

I hang up and head to Tali’s room, knocking on the door.

“Come in.” I push into the room, leaving the door open. “Viking?” she gasps and pushes off the bed and stands to the side of it.

“Hey, kiddo, can we talk?” She nods and sits back on the bed. I walk into her room and take a seat at her desk. I don't want her to feel uncomfortable. “Your mom is a little distracted at the minute, and I know you and Roach broke up. I just wanted to make sure you were okay.”

She nods.

“Did he tell you where he was going?”

She glances over to the window and places her hands in her lap, looking down at them, and shakes her head.

“Tali, did you know he was missing?”

She just shrugs. What the fuck is going on with all these women and the fucking shrugging all of a sudden.

“Tali, if you know something, can you tell me?”

She looks out of the window again.

“Have you seen Ray?” She looks down at her hands but doesn’t say anything. “She came here, didn’t she?” She still doesn’t say anything. “After the fire. She came to see you? What did she say, Tali? We’re worried about her.”

“Seems you're more worried about Roach, but he’s where he belongs.”
