“Steel!” Tank pleads.

“It's okay, Tank!” I give him a half smile. “I’ll be careful.”

I turn to leave, and as I reach the door, Ares steps in front of it, blocking my path. “You need to stay, Brother!”

I glare at him. “Why?”

“Just trust me, you need to stay!”

“What the fuck are you not telling me?”

Dice steps up beside me. “Steel, please?”

I glance between the three of them and then at Tray. My shoulders sag. “You know she’s alive?”

They all look away, and I have my answer. I push through them and out of the door. Motherfuckers knew she was alive and didn't tell me. Looks like I’m on my own. I head back to the clubhouse to the tech room to find what they've been working on. I’m sure I’ll find the answers there.

I take in everything on the walls as I push into the tech room. It looks the same, but there are a few more pin holes in the wall, as if someone has pinned more things but removed them and then the two holes that look like someone has tried to punch their way through the wall don't go unnoticed. I check the desk and nothing. I check the shredder, and it’s empty. I flick the computer on. I know enough to get by, so I can wing it. As it fires up, the screen comes to life, and a box for the password pings up. “Fuck!” I turn the fucking thing off and head back to the apartment.

As I walk in, Dane’s on the sofa. “Where the fuck have you been?” He hasn’t been back for days. It might even be weeks, who the fuck knows anymore. “Does Dice know you’re home?”

“Only got back ten minutes ago. Where is he?”

“Clinic!”

Dane dives up from the sofa. “Fuck, why didn’t you say, is he okay? I need to go!”

“Calm the fuck down. Skye had the baby!”

He sags back to the sofa. “Fuck, you scared the shit out of me!” He takes a shaky breath.

“You know she’s alive, don’t you?”

“Steel.”

“Don’t, Dane. I saw her at the clinic. I know it was her. What’s everyone keeping from me?”

“Steel, you know I love you, but you gotta let it go, man. She’s gone.”

“I refuse to believe that Dane and the way you lot acted when I told you, you knew it wasn’t true you would lose your shit if anything happened to her.”

“Look, just leave this alone. Trust me when I say it’s better you don’t go looking for ghosts.”

“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”

“It means, let the dead stay dead, Steel.”

“She’s not fucking dead!” I bellow. “I’ve seen her. I’m not gonna stop till I find her!”

I turn to storm off. “Steel, sit the fuck down. We need to talk.”

My chest is rising and falling rapidly. I'm gripping the scrubs in my hand like a lifeline, and I’m losing my grip on everything around me. All I can focus on is her. She’s… everything.

“Sit down, Steel!”

I calm my breathing, close my eyes and ground myself on the feeling of the scrubs in my hand. I sigh as I slide on to the sofa and grip the scrubs tight to my chest.

“Clearly, keeping you in the dark will turn into a total shit show, so I need you to listen and listen well. You need to believe she’s gone! You need to act like she’s gone, and you need to start right fucking now, or you’re gonna fuck things right up!”
