Idon’t know who was on the phone that got him so spooked, but it made him even more delusional. I don’t know why he would think I would willingly have sex with him after everything that happened to us. Using all my strength, I kneed him in his balls. He rolled over me, holding his sack. I jumped up and started to hit him over and over again. I had to fight for myself, for my baby. I wouldn’t stop hitting him.

I picked up the tray on the table and hit him in the face until he stopped moving. I was scared that if I stopped, he would kill me or my baby. Gripping the tray in one hand, I searched for his phone with the other. When I found his phone, I called Jason’s number. I’m so glad I know it by heart.

He picked up after two rings.

“Jason, help! I’m at the high-rise neighborhood!”

I knew he would know which neighborhood because I brought him here to see the houses once. I had some houses for sale here and he wanted to see how they looked. We both came to the conclusion they were too close to each other for our liking. We wanted privacy and a nice yard.

I went outside to the porch and waited for Jason to come. I hoped that whomever Craig was working with wasn’t in the house with us. I don’t think I had any more energy to fight off another attack. It felt like only a few minutes when I saw Jason running towards me, with Darius and Jack behind him. I was scared for a minute that I wouldn’t see any of them ever again. Jason picked me up, hugging me.

Once I realized I was safe in his arms, my eyes fluttered shut as I said, “He had help.”

I woke up in a white room with machines beeping all around me. Today’s events ran through my mind making me scared that I didn’t actually get away. I sat up in a panic, quickly putting my hand on my stomach.

Jason looked at me, smiling. “The baby is fine.”

I felt a rush of relief when I realized Jason was sitting next to me. I knew I was safe. Then I thought about what he said. I was confused. How did he find out?

“You left the picture on the table before everything happened. I’m going to be a dad.” Tears filled his eyes, and I started to cry, too.

I was so happy that, for a moment, I forgot about everything that happened.

I finally worked up the courage to ask, “What happened to Craig?”

Jason tensed but replied, “Don’t worry about that now. Just rest.”

But I shook my head and asked again.

He let out a sigh before he sat down and held my hand. “Promise me you won’t get upset with what I’m about to tell you. Please don’t get upset. Think about the baby.”

I nodded.

He squeezed my hand and said, “He’s dead. He died from his injuries.”

“Okay, good.”

He looked shocked by my statement.

“He should have never tried to hurt me and our baby. I wouldn’t be happy if I knew he was still alive.”

He kissed me gently, pouring all his emotions into the kiss. I kissed him back, pouring my emotions into the kiss as well. The kiss was getting heated until I heard Darius’s voice.

“Well, I see you two waste no time with each other.”

We laughed, and he came to hug me. “I couldn’t sleep or rest until I knew you were found and safe. I missed you,” he said while squeezing me tighter.

Although I enjoyed his hug, I faked groan, “You’re going to squeeze the baby out of me if you hug me any tighter.

Darius pulled back and eyed my face before looking down at my stomach. “For real? I’m going to be an uncle!”

The excitement showed in his face before he pulled me in for another hug. When Jack and Mary came around to see how I was doing, I told them about the baby as well. They were ecstatic about being grandparents.

Later, a woman came into the room saying that all my vitals were fine, and she took me off all the machines. I realized I was not in a regular hospital, but in some room that was apparently attached to a hospital building near Jason’s parents’ house. They apparently had their own hospital for their family business.

I quickly went into the bathroom to shower, and Jason gave me one of his shirts to put on. It was so huge on me that it looked like a short dress.

Jason took me to his parents’ house and said that we would spend the night there since he didn’t want to drive far with me, and we would be near the hospital on their land. I agreed to it because I really don’t want to go back to my house right now. I would have to talk to Jason about moving to his place for a while since I don’t want to go back to mine. Darius stayed in a guest room at his parents’ house, too.
