My anger only grew looking at his smug face. I knew it was only one way to help me curb my anger. I punched him in the face multiple times until he was barely recognizable.

I screamed in his face, “Where is she?”

He stayed quiet.

Looking behind me, I found Dad and Darius watching me intently. I told my dad to get the bucket of water and the nurse. The nurse came quick and made sure he had a pulse. I poured the water on top of his head, and he tried to open his eyes the best he could.

“Where is she?” I repeated.

He laughed. “Don’t you want to know why?”

I figured I’ll bite and asked, “Why?”

He looked at Dad, then me, and said, “He killed my father and took me in like nothing happened. He took the only family I had away from me, then moved me here with you just so you could ignore me. I wanted you to feel the pain of what I felt when I had everything taken away from me. Then your dad would know how it felt to have everything taken away from him.”

I was still confused. “What does my dad killing your dad have to do with Dawn?”

He smirked. “Once she was dead, I would’ve killed you, and your dad would finally know how it feels to lose everything. He would’ve never known it was me who killed you both until he retired and had me take his position. I would’ve told him right before I killed him and that wife of his.”

Dad stalked towards him, slapping him hard. “I knew never to trust you.”

Darius came from the corner and demanded, “Why my sister, though? What does Craig have to do with it?”

He laughed crazily. “That fool is too in love with her. I just needed him to kidnap her and once I set everything in motion, he would’ve died too. He thought he would be getting revenge on Jason for taking her, but the fool didn’t know I would kill him, too. He actually thought she would love him again and he would be able to get her to leave Jason for him.”

Darius punched him in the gut until he bled from the mouth.

“Where is she?” My patience was wearing thin, and I didn’t want to listen to his crazy ideas anymore.

He remained silent.

“Okay, have it your way, then.”

I pulled out my utensils and knew I would have fun with them. I took the pliers and ripped the fingernails off his right hand. He cried in anguish by the time I got to the fifth one.

I asked again, “Where is she?”

He bit his lip to stop from saying anything.

I picked up a hammer and smashed it down on his knee while he screamed in pain. I smiled, knowing he would eventually give me what I wanted. I looked to Dad, who was smiling at me. He looked proud of me, and I know if it wasn’t because of the time frame we are in, he would’ve told me how proud he was.

I asked again, but my cousin was still tight-lipped. I went to get my rusty scissors when I heard my phone ringing.

I picked it up and put it on speaker.

“Jason, help! I’m at the high-rise neighborhood!”

That was my baby Dawn on the phone, and she was talking fast.

“I know where you are, baby. I’m on the way.” I ran upstairs with Dad and Darius on my heels. I told the guard to watch the prisoner.

I called some of my guys to meet me just in case it’s a setup. I sped through all the lights, trying to make it to my baby. When I got to the neighborhood, I saw all the vacant houses. I rode around until I saw her on a porch at the last house on the block, bloody looking dazed. I prayed that wasn’t her blood on her.

Jumping out of the car, I ran to her and hugged her, picking her up. She nearly collapsed in my arms, and I carried her bridal style to the car. Darius was so happy to see her he wanted to take her from my arms. He knew I wouldn’t let anyone touch her right now, though. I ordered my guys to go inside to see what happened.
