While my sister pacifies me with an unconvinced, “sure.”

I roll my eyes and add, “I’m sure he won’t even call.”

This time they both give me bugged-eye looks.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, back up one second. He won’t call?” Amal questions.

“Yeah, we exchanged numbers.”

“Who initiated the exchange?” Amal, the Dr. Watson to Meeka’s Sherlock Holmes, enquires.

“He asked for my contact…” I grumble.

“Poor Michael,” my sister shakes her head with a wide, toothy grin.

Meeka raises her arms, pumping the air, and doing a ridiculous victory dance.

“I’m getting into work. I love you, crazy ladies,” I giggle before adding, “and nothing will happen with Adam,” just before losing them.

Maya Jones. My Maya. For years, I kept her in a far corner of my mind. Only rarely revisiting the sweet memories of our childhood and images of the beautiful young woman she’d grown into. Like an old dream. A fantasy from another time and place.

I never expected I’d get the chance to finally talk to her, now that I’ve overcome my crippling shyness. What if she’s married? A voice whispers in my head. Well, I checked and there was no ring on her finger. She could still be seeing someone… The devil on my shoulder adds. Stop it, Adam! My voice of reason booms, crushing my doubts. If fate brought Maya back into my life, this can only be good.

And she looked so fucking hot. Still a good foot shorter than me, and mouthwateringly curvy. Actually, she looks ten times sexier than before. Her round hips have widened more than enough to get a solid grip on. Her full tits looked fucking amazing in that silk blouse. And the long, shapely legs stretching for miles out of that fitted skirt would feel amazing thrown over my shoulders. Fuck, I’m getting hard. I pull up my mental file of basketball stats until I can get home and jump into a cold shower.

I’m coming for you, Maya. And this time I’m not letting you escape.

Dinner With An Old Friend…

Maya

I walk into my apartment and toe off my shoes at the entrance, making my way to the living room to sprawl out on the couch for a few minutes. Fuck, that was a long day.

Later that evening, I’m dozing off in front of the TV, nicely groggy. My worries about my lack of compatibility with Michael or my surprise meet with Adam are just vague, hovering thoughts at the border of my consciousness. I’m about to drift off when my phone rings. My fingers fumble with the screen to stop the annoying ringtone.

“Hello,” I mumble into the receiver in my sleepy state, without checking who’s calling.

“Maya?” Adam asks in his low timbre, and I instantly straighten up, instantly wide awake.

“Hey, Adam.”

“Hey yourself.” His sexy voice is filled with humor. “Is this a good time?”

“Yeah, yeah. Of course.” My heart beats like crazy.

“You’re not busy with dinner?”

“No, I already ate.”

“Okay, good.” He’s quiet for a few seconds. “It was really nice seeing you today, Maya. I’d love to spend some time together.” When I don’t immediately respond, he adds, “to catch up and stuff.”
