I slowly raise my hands.

“Don’t hurt him. I’ll do whatever you want.”

Merry pouts and glances at Art. “We just want our family back.”

“Okay.” I say calmly. But inside, I’m anything but calm. I remember Acton and Taylor going down and feel nothing but pure, unbridled panic. I can’t see a way out of this.

I stare at Barren and will him to move.

I look in the mirror of the car. My polished, sophisticated city self stares back. Smoky eyes, flawless skin, blood-red lips. I climb out of the driver’s seat and smooth down the tight line of my skirt. My tight, white, shirt accent my narrow waist, while still making me look like I’m in charge.

Exactly the look I want when I’m approaching someone I want to impress. And destroy.

From the corner of my eye, I catch a flash of crimson and grit my teeth harder. I carefully maneuver my way towards the cabin. This dumb bitch thinks she can pretend to be me and lure my omega out. Tut tut.

The rage that has been simmering inside me turns ice cold. I move faster, but pause when I hear someone crashing through the trees.

I reach for the bond, and he feels so close. Too close. No, that’s not part of the plan!

“No,” the whisper is pulled from me.

I move faster, but I know I won’t beat him there.

He’s too fast, even on our runs, I’ve never seen him move like this, and he’s closer to the cabin.

I duck my head down and run. But my skirt and these shoes have me at a disadvantage.

I lose sight of him as I take a shortcut, almost tripping over an exposed root. I catch myself on a tree and propel myself even faster.

Not my omega.

No.

I’ve lost my heels, but that doesn’t matter. All that matters is getting there in time.

I’m close.

I see Jet rush into my cabin, crashing through the door.

“Barren,” he shouts.

I increase my strides, then skid to a stop to pause in the doorway, taking a moment to observe. My mask is on. I glare around the interior with haughty derision.

“What are you people doing in my cottage?”

Barren is on his back. The huge alpha I’ve seen skulking around has his boot pressed into his chest, and from the wince, he’s putting the pressure on. A growl tears from my throat, and he looks up. The lights are on, but there’s no one home. The only thing I can pick up from him is violence, fury, and a lack of human intelligence that is terrifying.

“To your knees for your omega,” the woman, Merry, snaps. She’s tiny but so sure of her success, so sure she’s entitled to this. I could break her with one hand. She pouts, reminding my of a child.

I snort. Not happening in this life, bitch.

Jet drops to his knees, his eyes locked painfully on Bar. I dislike that sight intensely. The feral madness inside rises at the sight of Jet on his knees for someone else and another Alpha’s hands on my omega.

He’s going to die. I can see the intent on Art’s face. I have to do something, anything.
