I inhale, and when I exhale, all the feeling for the pack, all the emotion is gone, and I’m just Scarlet, the CEO. Scarlet who lived on the streets. Scarlet who survived and became powerful enough to protect herself.

I let the mask slide off me, let the magnetism, the innate sex appeal and dominance that is mine come forth. This is why I hide. This is why I always hide who I am. Because I’m as much a magnet as Bar is. With one small difference.

I’m far more dangerous.

Her blue eyes widen when she sees me. They glaze over. “You…you’re not an omega.” She whimpers the words.

“You’ve seen me around enough that you should know that already, so don’t be coy, Omega.”

Her head snaps back like I’ve struck her. “I assumed, I’m sorry, I was wrong,” she whispers.

I spot Gold in the corner of the room, unconscious, bleeding from a head wound. Again, it’s like ripping myself in two, but I dismiss him from my mind.

“I’m not an omega.” I confirm, my voice like smoke. “I am a female alpha.”

“But…they were replacing me.” She says in confusion. “I saw them.”

I lick my lower lip and watch her eyes flicker down to follow the movement. With an exaggerated sway of my hips, I advance towards her. “No, I was looking for my omega.” Her eyes, those crystal blue, watery eyes, turn hard. “But it looks like my search has ended.”

She gasps. A small sound. Her perfume, a combination of flowers that makes me want to hurl, grows stronger, drowning out the citrus of Barren’s distressed scent.

Art, the massive alpha, is staring at me. He’s bald with dull brown eyes that are too small. He doesn’t trust me. I can see it on his face. Bar is forgotten as I move closer still.

I curl a finger at him and he shifts, moving towards me but stopping before he can go more than two steps. Barren curls up in a ball, watching me with huge, wounded eyes.

“My pack,” I purr. I tug hard on the bond, hoping he’ll understand my command to stay.

Merry whimpers. Her eyes are huge. What big eyes you have. She bites her lower lip and gnaws it. I can’t help but compare her to some kind of rodent.

“Why did you come to my cabin?” I ask and circle away from Bar, drawing the omega and her alpha with me. Every step they take away from him is a battle won. His territorial need to protect what’s his may fuck this up, but I’m hoping that he can feel what’s inside me.

“Because…I need to kill him.” She says it so logically that I don’t doubt that she absolutely believes it.

I snort. “You don’t need to do anything to get your pretty little fingers dirty, darling. Let your alphas handle this pesky pack.” The words threaten to make me vomit, but they work on her.

She drifts closer to me, staring up at me like I could hang the stars for her. Her lips part in a pout that I’m sure people would think is sexy. Her blond hair is a pale blond and curly. She’s wearing a pale pink dress. She looks like a doll.

“Would you kill him for me?” Her question comes out in breathless excitement.

Her words send a chill up my spine, but I don’t let it show.

I smile at her. “What are you going to do for me?”

“Do?” She frowns and glances at Art.

“Yes, I need some guarantee you aren’t going to dispose of me, like so many in the past have. My pack rejected me. They found an omega who said I was revolting, disgusting, an aberration.” I don’t have to fake the rage and hurt in my voice.

She shakes her head violently. “I wouldn’t do that.”

“Give me a taste,” I purr. “Let me taste you.”

Bar whines, and I scent his pain in the air. I ignore it, forcing myself to continue with this charade, lifting my hand and stroking her face. I lean down but pause.

“You’re so beautiful, Omega. But I don’t want our first kiss to be shared with these people.”

“Alpha?” she pleads.

“Let's go?” I whisper.
