“No, I need to kill them.” Her words sound firm, but the tone is uncertain.

I give her a disdainful look. “Are you giving me orders, Omega? Do I need to punish you?” I hesitate, my body coiling, wondering if she’s going to follow the push I’ve put in the air.

“Punish me?” Her eyes are wide, as if the idea had never occurred to her, but now that it’s there, she needs it.

“Yes, punish you.”

The alpha growls, and I snap my eyes to him and stare him down until he drops his eyes.

“Um, no. He has to die. I need my alphas.”

Fury such as I’ve never known sweeps through my blood. I can’t hide it, so I harness it and redirect it.

I cross my arms. “Am I not enough? Are you saying that you need more than these two powerful alphas?”

She looks from me to Art and back again. I can see her confused mind trying to work out what answer to give me.

“You are, but-“

“No buts. He is nothing. And these pissy little alphas are a dime a dozen. Come with me, we can conquer cities. I’ll show you how to rule them all. And you can have your pick of alphas.”

She moves, and Art follows, heading for the door.

“Take that off.” I bark at her.

She hesitates, her eyes cold. “Why?”

“Because you reek of him. Shed the coat and leave it here. I don’t want anything of them with us when we leave.”

She smiles happily and drops the coat.

I glance back. Jet is staring at me. The rope around his wrist and ankles stops him from moving much, but he’s managed to pin Barren.

I find Gold in the room's corner, struggling to stand, anguish on his face.

I close my eyes. “Goodbye.” I whisper, then I pull the door closed behind me.

The walk through the woods leads us to darker and deeper areas. As we get near the spot I’ve chosen, I think of what I’m doing. I go over and over it in my head.

If I do this, I won’t have any reason to stay. If I don’t do this, I might lose them forever.

Merry curls up against my side, her touch burning me. She looks up and smiles happily. No idea I’m so repulsed by her that I could vomit.

“You’re the perfect Alpha.” She croons.

I smile at her. “And you’ll be the perfect omega. Now, I want you to sit here while I talk to Art about the surprise I have for you.” I pat the rock. “Right here.”

She lifts her face for a kiss, and I hesitate before sliding my hands over her shoulders and down to her ass, pulling her up against me. I lean down and brush our lips together.

“Behave yourself, and I will make it all worth your while.”

She giggles.

There is nothing sane about her. Merry is completely and utterly insane. I could take her to the authorities, but she hasn’t done anything, and it’s her word against theirs. I know they won’t listen to Bar or my alphas. But a female omega crying rape, abuse, they will lock my pack up so fast.

No. I have to do this, and strangely, I feel perfectly okay with my decision.

It doesn’t take me long to find Art, I just needed to follow the rotten scent of him. We’re far enough away that I know Merry is unlikely to hear us. The thick, dense bushes further mask sound and visibility. I know, I picked this spot with a great deal of care. I’d expected to feel nervous, but all I feel is calm.
