We wait long into the night ,but it’s not until midnight that Taylor’s gift appears.

I open the door to the knock and find a man standing there. He hands me an envelope and waits while I sign for it, then he turns and strides away.

I shut the door and come back into the room, nudging a sleeping Hazel aside.

The letter is only a few lines.

There are no secrets between us now. It’s done. Alpha, this is an invitation to Pack Knight. It’s a formal declaration to court, it’s a claiming.

You belong to us, and we are coming for you.

“Well, hell. He is intense isn’t he?” Hazel says from behind me. “What are you going to do?”

I frown. What am I going to do? A conversation would be nice. But I have to admit they’re wearing me down with their gifts.

But still, that feeling. It scares me. To reach out and stand all alone in the cold. I don't want to be alone. I put my hand on my stomach where the life inside me is growing.

“I don’t know.” But I do know, I just don't have the courage to say it out loud.

“What’s that?” Hazel asks. “Oh, look, a gift from me, too.” Hazel sounds so nervous.

I look down at the floor and pick up an invitation. It’s to a formal event in two weeks.

“The party is so exclusive. I have to be there for Grayson, but I'd love it if we could go together? Please?”

I glance over my shoulder at her. “You’ve been trying to figure a way out to ask me all day haven’t you?”

Hazel flushes. “Yeah, I admit it. The parties suck. Like real bad sucking, and my ex-future pack might be there. And I just for once want someone who’s on my side.”

I shake my head. “You don't need to hesitate. We’re friends. I'd gladly go with you.”

Barren walks into our hotel room and leans over me, kissing my cheek. “Hazel says she’s going to the event.” He huffs. “Why are we waiting so long?”

“Because.” I say calmly. “Come on, you’re coming with me.”

“Where are we going?”

I give him a flirty smile and usher him out to the waiting car. He slides in the back and continues to ask, but I just laugh and hold out until the car comes to a stop. I get out first, and he steps out just behind me, drinking it in.

“Ready to turn our girl into a princess?”

Bar smiles in delight and laces his fingers through mine. It hasn’t felt like this since courting, and there’s a pang in my chest. It’s all healing, it’s all coming together.

A few more things to do.

We go in, and the lady comes over to us, smiling politely.

“We’re looking for a dress.”

She frowns as she listens and hums before her eyes widen.
