“Give me just one moment.”

I lift Barren’s hand to my lips and graze my teeth along the back of his skin. The bond between us isn’t fully open, but I can get a sense of his emotions, the excitement, the nervousness.

He turns to me, and his face takes on a serious intensity that makes my heart ache.

“What are we doing?”

I smile softly at him. “We’re saying we’re sorry. That we want her forever. That we will never ever hurt her again.”

Bar’s smile is as wondrous as I could hope for it to be. “Then I have some ideas.”

I lean in close as he starts to talk.

Hazel looks at the dress with her eyebrows raised. “This must have cost a fortune.”

“Will you take it to her?”

“She’s really confused, and the situation is…difficult.”

I take her hand in mine. “Please, Hazel.”

She bites her lower lip and looks at the dress, the jewelry boxes, and the letter.

“You better not make her cry.”

“We won’t.”

“I’m serious. I really like her. She’s a great person, and life has been pretty damn shitty. I don’t know what happened up there, but she cries every night. I hate seeing her so upset.”

I let go of her hand and step back. “I promise, if she will forgive us, nothing like that will ever happen again.”

“She has a bond mark.” Hazel snaps out, her eyes practically send sparks at me.

My eyes find Barren, who is murmuring in the corner with Falcon and Silas, Hazel’s brother’s mates.

“His? He bonded her?”

I growl unhappily. “We all would, given the chance.”

“Even Taylor?” Hazel asks suspiciously.

“Especially Taylor.”

Her hesitation ends, and she smiles. “I’ll make sure she’s wearing it.” She hesitates and then puts her hand in her purse and pulls out five white cards. “Your invitations.”

I take them like they are the most precious jewels.

“Thank you.”

“You don’t deserve her.” Hazel says and pats her hair into place. I swallow hard, fighting the flinch and failing.

“I know.” I smile softly, running my fingers over the embossed letters. I close my eyes and see her in my mind’s eye. The way she looked on the trail, at the cabin, in my arms. I just want to see her smile.

“You really don’t.”

“I know. But I love her anyway.” I glance up. “Does that surprise you?”

Hazel freezes, and there’s a shadow of pain in her eyes that I don’t understand. “Yes and no. Don’t ever let her go.”
