"Probably mywhat did you dolook."

"What did I do?"

"How much did you donate?"

"A couple of million."

"If you keep spending and giving it away, you won't have any left."

"I told you, money isn't important. And again, I have a lot of patents: Brainiac, and all that, you know. So, I give it away, invest in what I think is important, and it's all good. And honestly, isn't helping more important than having when you already have enough?"

"You make me want to be a better human being, Naomie Taylor."

"And you make me want… well, maybe we should discuss that later. In private."

Russell smiled and hugged her. "Have I told you lately how much I love you?"

"No, but you can whisper that in my ear later when I tell you what you make me want."

His chuckle warmed her heart as much as Dr. Thomason's report on Riggs's condition had relieved it. She knew this wasn't how Riggs had wanted things to go, but maybe they could get him back on his feet and prove he could still be the man he'd always been.

And that would make her one happy woman.

Chapter Six

Six weeks and three days. That's how long it'd been since the surgery. Before he agreed to all this, Riggs thought he could deal with it. He'd man the fuck up and get through it. But today wasn’t one of those days; he had no fuck to man up with. He was sick of being crippled, sick of the exercises Georgie bullied, shamed, bribed, or cajoled him into doing every day.

"What put that thundercloud on your face?"

He looked in the direction of her voice. The first time he saw Georgie's prosthetic leg, it threw him for a loop and robbed him of his instant attraction for her. Six weeks and four days later, he no longer felt that way. Today, seeing her in a pair of running shorts and top, with her bionic leg on display, all he could see was a hell of a sexy woman with more courage and determination than anyone he'd ever known.

Aside from Naomie,he realized. Maybe that's what attracted him so much to Georgie. She was like Naomie in some ways, intelligent and determined, and able to laugh at herself and life. And sexy as sin, even with the bionic leg.

Still, he wasn't in the mood to be seduced into a good mindset, so he refused to smile. "If I don't get out of this place soon, I'm going to spontaneously combust."

"Combust, eh?" He didn't have to look at her to know she was taunting him. The last month, they had spent so much time together he could tell her mood just by the tone of her voice.

"Yeah, as in blow the fuck up?"

"I get it. You're stir crazy."

"Duh, you think?"

"I think this is your lucky day, big guy because I'm here to take you out."

"Out where?"

"Out there," she gestured toward the window. "Outside. To a park or a walk in the city, to a restaurant, movie, or whatever you want. Just out."

"Really?"

"Absolutely."

"Then let's go," he whirled his wheelchair around, reaching for the crutches leaning against his bed.

"Hold on," she got to the bed before him and stood in front of the crutches. "I can't take you unless you're in the wheelchair."

"I'm fine on the crutches, and I don't want to be in the wheelchair."
