“Or what? You’ll sic the cripple on me again?” He looked around her at Riggs. “You might not find it so easy when I’m ready.”

“Sure,” Riggs agreed sarcastically.

“You—” Josh moved to go around Georgie, but she stepped in his way.

“I said leave. Now, Josh. Turn around and leave.”

Chapter Eight

Still furious, even after the hour drive home, Josh slammed the front door closed behind him hard enough to rattle the wall. He headed straight for the bar, opened a new bottle of bourbon, poured himself a half glass and downed it before coming up for air.

That bitch. He was livid that Georgie didn’t defend him, and that Riggs made him look foolish and weak. Since that entitled asshole showed up, things had gone wrong.

First there was the matter of Georgie treating Riggs like he was some kind of world-class hero, worthy of worship. Then there was the situation at work. His superiors were wimps and tiptoed around the women in the office, like they had to be on their best behavior or risk being sued or worse by those smug bitches.

Not him. He wasn't hesitant to call them out when they were slow finishing a task he assigned or made a mistake. And like the little tattle-tale whores they were, they, of course, ran to HR to complain, who then, of course, complained to Josh’s father, the CEO of the hedge fund.

Never before had his father sided against him, but this time he did. Now Josh was on probation for verbally abusing three secretaries, and for physically bullying his assistant. It was all crap. Yeah, he called those lazy-ass secretaries to the carpet for not paying attention and doing the job right the first time. And yes, he did slap that self-righteous assistant who got in his face and said if he touched her, she’d have him fired.

Josh never expected to be chastised or placed on probation, and was stunned his father didn’t stand up for him. He hadn’t told Georgie, because she was such a do gooder, she’d probably side with those trashy whores over him. Just like she defended Riggs over him.

Well, enough was enough. He’d had all he could stand and wouldn’t stand for more. He’d get even with all of them. He just needed to figure out a plan that didn’t put him at risk.

And he knew the place to go for ideas. The one place that got his blood pumping. No one who knew him would ever guess his taste in porn. Watching women be abused and raped was the biggest turn-on in his life. Watching not only gave him ideas, but also filled him with longing to do the same.

The only difference today was that he knew who he wanted to do those things to.

Georgie.

Admitting that was liberating and exhilarating. He’d realized he could begin to be his true self around her. And that’s the moment he started to plan on how he would teach Georgie a lesson and train her how to be the wife he wanted.

*****

Georgie turned when the door opened. Riggs steered his wheelchair into the room and once clear of the door, stopped. “Patient Riggs, reporting for duty. Ma’am.”

Were it not for the grin on his face, she might have taken offense. “Am I that bad?”

“Honey, you have no idea how bad you are.”

She didn’t know who was more surprised, her or him. She’d not admit it, but his words, and the inflection with which he spoke to them, sent her hormones into a frenzied dance.

“Well, then, get behind that curtain and see if you can change into workout shorts.”

“I thought we were testing?”

“We are. Physical assessment for the surgeons, cardiologists, pulmonologists, and neurologists and all the other ologists.”

“All that?”

“You didn’t know the team was so big?”

“I didn’t realize there were so many specialties involved.”

“Well, the body is an integrated system, isn’t it? So, naturally, we’re going to monitor and record data from all your systems.”

“It sort of makes me sound like a machine.”

“And that’s what your body is. A biological machine of immense complexity, and remarkable elegance of design.”
