Becca laughed. The idea was so preposterous, she couldn’t have reacted in any other way. “You can’t be serious.”

“Oh, I’m serious. People hide a whole lot of stuff when they think they might get caught.”

“Caught? I have no concern about getting caught because I didn’t do anything wrong. This is my personal computer. I don’t share it with anyone. There is zero reason I would need to hide what I’m doing.”

“Then why have you been on your computer so much?” Tina demanded.

Becca gaped at her. This woman wasn’t going to let any of it go. “You’re jealous about Ethan, aren’t you?”

“What? No, I’m not.”

“Yes, you are. You’re upset that I started dating him.”

Tina glanced away, her eyes shifting from one person to the next. “I don’t have any reason to be jealous. I’mengaged.”

“Youwereengaged,” Gabby murmured.

Tina huffed. “Fine, I was engaged. That means I didn’t have any reason to be jealous over your relationship. What about the fact that you practically rubbed your relationship in everyone’s faces when you got here? You’ve been trying to get attention.”

Becca got to her feet, taking her computer with her. “I didn’t want to have to say this, but I think it’s time I did. The only person here who has been trying to take the spotlight off Katrina has been you. Every little thing you could do to get attention, you’ve done. There was the engagement announcement. Then the breakup. You’ve complained when things didn’t go your way, and now you’re stirring up more drama. If I weren’t such a nice person, I would have demanded we look atyoursearch history.”

Based on the way Tina’s skin paled slightly, Becca knew she’d hit a nerve. That was all the evidence she needed to make herself feel better.

“You know what? It’s been a long day.” Her heart still ached from the realization she’d had when she was with Ethan. And now she had to get back to her story and write something romantic when that was the last thing she was feeling at this moment. “I think I’m going to take a few hours and?—”

“And what?” Tina waved a finger at the computer. “Do more of your searching? You never told us what you’re doing on that thing.”

“Working. I’m a freelancer, okay?” Becca turned to Katrina. “I’m sorry that this whole thing got so out of hand. You shouldn’t have to deal with any of it.”

She couldn’t bring herself to stay in this room. The walls were closing in around her. The air had thinned to the extent that she felt she was drowning. The only thing that would help was if she got some space.

Hugging her computer to her chest, Becca hurried toward the stairs. Normally she would have worried what her friend thought of her. She would have told Katrina that she just needed a little break. But she did none of that.

Right now, she needed to regroup before she could see any of them.

Including Ethan.

She’d only been in her room for maybe five minutes when there was a knock on the door. Becca contemplated not answering. It was probably Tina. The woman really didn’t know how to let something be.

The knocking persisted and Becca turned to the window. There wasn’t an awning, nor were there any trees she could try to climb down. She was stuck.

She groaned and faced the door, ready for the onslaught. “Yeah?” she called.

The door slowly opened, and Katrina poked her head inside.

“Can we talk?” She didn’t wait for an answer before she slipped inside and shut the door behind her. “Becca, I have to say how sorry?—”

Holding up a hand, Becca shook her head. “Don’t apologize. You’re not responsible for her actions.”

“Yeah, but I invited her.”

“Because you guys have a friendship. I probably have a few friends I really don’t get along with one hundred percent of the time, either.” Becca chuckled more to herself than Katrina. If she were honest, she’d admit to Katrina that she would have sent such friends packing long before she decided to get married, but Katrina already had too much on her plate.

“I should have trusted my gut.” Katrina dropped onto the edge of the bed and stared at her hands. “I knew Tina was taking things too far, but I’m trying to keep the peace. It’s not an excuse. I know it might sound like one…” She looked up at Becca once more. “When I envisioned my wedding, I saw myself surrounded by all my friends, and sadly enough, for now Tina is one of them.”

“This is your special day. You get to choose who you want to be with you. Honestly, with the way Tina seriously has it out for me, I’m tempted to leave, myself.”

“Don’t you dare,” Katrina said sharply.
