She’d been thinking of this more and more.

How excited Carson was for his brother.

The jealousy she felt and thought she saw a little of in Carson’s eyes.

“I know it’s horrible to say that it’s rare, but you do see men that are supportive but not attentive.”

Her father for one.

She didn’t want to feel that way, but it was hard not to.

Her father loved her and always would.

He showed his love in ways that she didn’t always want or need. She learned that you shouldn’t ask for more than someone is capable of doing though.

She was lucky to have her father in her life when so many times it could have gone another way.

“There are mothers out there like that too,” Ava said.

Avery came in next with Jennie Bond, followed by Sidney Bond.

Delaney was the one who wanted to do this with Ava. The invite was extended to Avery from Ava, then Avery toJennie Bond when Alex found out through Carter last week and mentioned Jennie had been wanting to do it. Then from Jennie to her sister-in-law, Sidney. In Laine’s eyes, the more the merrier.

“Sam is coming,” Jennie said. “She’ll be here in five minutes.”

“That’s great,” she said. Bode’s wife, and she knew Sam Bond worked with Jennie, so she was assuming that was how that worked into it.

“I can’t wait,” Delaney said. “But we know Sidney is going to show us all up since she is an illustrator.”

“Nothing like Laine,” Sidney said, “but I’ve been dying to come here myself and check out some supplies.”

“Let me show you around while Avery brings everyone to the room I’ve got set up. She’s here so much I might as well put a sign in the corner with her name on it.”

Avery grinned and brought everyone to the back room. Once Sam showed up, she’d locked the door. Closing at six for this worked out fine and it’s not as if it was that busy with people coming in this time of year.

Especially with Thanksgiving two days away.

“I’d love to pick your brain,” Sidney said. “I’m always coming up with new ideas for children’s books. I thought an artist one would be great. I could maybe talk to you and Josie if Avery’s on board with it?”

“That would be wonderful,” she said. “And I’m positive Avery and Josie would be thrilled.”

A few minutes later, Sam Bond walked in and Laine locked the door and all the women were in the back seated. Avery had set up another one since Sam was last minute.

“We are all set,” Avery said.

“My helper,” she said. “Too bad I can’t repay the favor at your business.”

“We always need people to clean up the rooms,” Avery said, grinning.

“I’ll take a hard pass on animal by-products,” she said.

“It’s not on your list of things to do?” Avery asked, grinning. “I’m hurt.”

“It will never be there either.” She turned to the group. “Was it decided on what the subject matter would be today?”

“I voted for painting Carson,” Delaney said, laughing. “Avery told us you’ve got sketches of him.”

Her jaw dropped. “Thanks a lot,” she said to her best friend.
