“No,” she said. “It’s not about keeping the same number there the whole time. Sometimes I don’t add anything for months. Other times I could put a few things on it in a week.” It was better to let that part of the conversation slide for now.

“Do you try to do so many things each month or year?” he asked.

“Nope,” she said, smiling. “I just let life happen. Sometimes I do realize I haven’t pushed myself to do things and I need to. No one should get too comfortable in life.”

“I’m going to say you are the most comfortable person in your life that I know.”

“Why would you say that?” she asked. She didn’t want it to be an insult and didn’t think it was.

“When people are uncomfortable the last thing they do is try something that they are scared to do. You’re confident in your life and your choices and if you decide to do something and it fails, you shrug it off as an experience.”

She smiled brightly. “What a sweet thing to say. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. So you want to try bodysurfing again?”

“Only if I’m wearing a one-piece suit,” she said, breaking out into a fresh round of giggles.

Talk about embarrassing.

She meets him for the first time breaking her finger doing silly dance moves. Then she loses the top of her bikini trying to prove she could hop on the biggest wave.

Good thing he didn’t comment on her spill off the board.

Luckily she didn’t hurt anything other than her pride flashing anyone looking their way when she stood up laughing.

Yep, there the giggles went again.

He followed along and people were looking at them.

“I can’t seem to stop,” she said. “So embarrassing. But it was great.”

His hand reached over and touched hers. “It was.”

She heard a throat clear next to her and turned to see Duke Raymond standing there with two plates of food in his hands.

“Heard you were out on the beach in the rain,” Duke said.

“Just bodysurfing,” Carson said. “Some of us take time off of work to enjoy Mother Nature.”

“I enjoy it just fine,” Duke said. “But I’m here to serve.”

She looked up and saw the laughter in the big man’s eyes.

“And be nosy,” Carson said.

“Hey, I’ve been on your side before,” Duke said, laughing, and then left.

“What does that mean?” she asked.

“When you date a member of the Bond family, all eyes will always be on you. Are you up for it?”

“I wouldn’t have just flashed my tiny boobs at you if I wasn’t.”

Laine wasn’t so sure she’d ever laughed, smiled or grinned as much as she had tonight. Definitely not in the time she knew him.

“It wasn’t on purpose,” he said.

“No,” she said, picking up her club sandwich and diving in. She didn’t want anything heavy. She didn’t even get fries but rather homemade chips. “But it could be the fate of the gods on the island giving us a nudge.”
