Reaching for his clothes, he dressed swiftly.

“How are you doing?” he asked.

“Really good. You?”

“I can’t tell you what it meant to me that you didn’t freak out.”

“Well, I did at first,” she said. “It’s a lot to take in.”

“I know, but you were amazing.”

“It was really helpful to have Trina and Devlin to talk to, but I would have been okay with just walking around with you too, I think.”

“We can do that some other time, just the two of us.”

“I’d like that.”

She leaned back against the door, her eyes lowering as she bit her bottom lip.

“Sweetheart?”

He tugged his pants on and picked up his shoes, not bothering to put them on. As he drew close to her, he caught the scent of her arousal.

“I want to see your home,” she said huskily.

“It’s your home now too,” he said.

She tipped her chin up and he kissed her, but just briefly, because the pride was waiting to get into the barn to shift. When he broke the kiss, he pulled her close with one arm and pushed the door open with the other.

“Let’s get downstairs,” he said.

“It’s really late,” she mused as they walked down the steps to head to the private living quarters.

“Are you tired?”

“I feel like I should be,” she said with a chuckle. “This has been a crazy night. But I’m not really tired.”

“Me, either. Shifting tends to make me feel wired, and I think it’s because shifting is energizing. It helps us heal if we’re injured, and if I’m tired, it wakes me up.”

“That’s pretty neat.”

He led her to the lions’ private living quarters. The floor was sand-colored, the walls painted to look like the plains. His home was a three-bedroom, with a large family room and kitchen, plus two bathrooms. His place was between Amadeus’s and Trina and Justus’s.

“Hey,” Javan yelled from across the room as Mercer opened his front door. “Caesar wanted me to let you know that there are guards posted at the exits, just as a precaution.”

“Thanks, man,” Mercer said. He made a face, his lion mentally growling at the extra security.

“It’s okay,” Rhomi said, looking up at him. “They don’t trust me yet.”

“I think you proved you’re sticking around,” he said. He swung her up into his arms, and she let out a little squeaking giggle.

“Yeah, but I still don’t mind. They need to keep everyone safe, and I’m not going to get butt-hurt because they’re protecting the park. If we had kids and someone new was hanging around, I’d want to make sure the alphas didn’t take anyone’s safety for granted.”

He paused and looked at her in surprise. “Kids?”

She looped her arms around his neck. “I’d like to have kids with you. Wouldn’t you?”

“Hell, yes. We just haven’t talked that far into the future.”
