“I don’t think so, or they would have found her at the hoaders’ house.”

She hummed. “I left my phone in the ticket office. Let me see yours.”

He handed his phone over and she unlocked the screen, then opened the internet app and did a search forNew Jersey, hoarder, jackal.

As the data populated, he wondered what she was thinking with those search terms, and then the links appeared.

The very first article was for a local news station:Exotic jackal taken from hoarder now resides in Amazing Adventures Safari Park.

She handed the phone to him so he could read the article. “I bet they have an online search for the word jackal. Did she ever say where she was from?”

“It’s somewhere south of us, maybe North Carolina, I don’t really remember.”

He sent the link to the security team with the wordsThis is why they came here looking for Ginny, then he put his phone in his pocket.

Joss knocked on the open door.

“How are you holding up, Rhomi?” Joss asked as he handed her phone to her.

She took the phone. “Thank you, and I’m okay.”

“We’re delaying opening the park until one o’clock while our people scout every inch of the damn place. In the meantime, you two take the day off and go hang out underground. Don’t worry about what’s going on up here; we’ve got it handled. You two just take care of each other.”

“Thanks, Joss,” Mercer said.

Caesar walked in as Joss was leaving. “You two are taking the day off, right? We’ve got it under control.”

“Yeah, we’ll go binge-watch something trashy and eat junk food,” he said.

After he sent his sweetheart into orbit.

“Sounds good.”

“Is Ginny okay?” Rhomi asked. “Does she know what happened?”

“We’ve got people going to talk to her now,” he said. “We’re going to bring her into the wolves’ private area since they have an empty house she can use.”

Rhomi nodded.

“Tomorrow,” Caesar said, smiling at Rhomi, “check in with Joss in the finance department before you go for your shift.”

“Is everything okay?” she asked.

“I don’t really want her in that office by herself anymore,” Mercer said. “Can I join her?”

“Just trust me on this one. Take the day and put this shitty situation behind yourselves and talk to Joss tomorrow.”

“Okay,” Mercer said.

Caesar nodded and turned, walking into the office with the monitors.

Mercer took Rhomi’s hand. “Ready to go home?”

“Yeah. Definitely.”

He opened the door outside when Alfie jumped up the steps and nearly collided with him.

“Shit, sorry, man.”
