“Well, now you know why it’s impossible for that woman to be pregnant with my child,” I went on. “Unless biology has changed in the past ten years, I’m pretty sure that the swimmers need to fertilize the egg for a baby to be made.”

“Quit being a dick,” she replied dryly.

I grinned. “Do you talk to all your clients that way?”

“If they’re being dicks, then yes.”

Getting serious again, I said, “I’m not lying, Lux.” Yeah, she hadn’t given me permission to use her first name, but we were past that now. “There’s no way that she’s pregnant. There’s no way thatanywoman that I’ve slept with in the past ten years has been or could ever be pregnant with my child.”

She let out another sigh. “Then what’s her angle? If she really slept with you, then she has to know that you only…that you have…uhm, stipulations.”

“Which makes me wonder if I even slept with her,” I remarked.

Lux scowled. “Do you really not remember her?”

“No,” I answered honestly. “While she looks familiar, I can’t tell one chick from the next. They all do that…that face makeup thing where they all look the same.”

“It’s call contouring,” she explained, her tone suggesting that I was stupid or something.

“Well, whatever the fuck it’s called, it makes them all look the same,” I replied. “It’s kind of creepy if you think about it too much.”

She started flicking her pencil against the notepad on the table. “You said that you’ve been celibate for three months. Is that true?’

I nodded. “We made a deal with Sebastian back in December, and we’ve kept up our end of the bargain,” I said. “While I haven’t been celibate the entire nine months, I slowed it down quite considerably, averaging twice a month maybe.”

“She says that she’s about four or five months pregnant, give or take a week,” she mumbled, almost thinking to herself.

“Yeah, I’ve got that damn press announcement memorized,” I griped.

“Okay, so…” Lux sighed again. “We can’t let this go for much longer.”

“What do you need from me?” I asked, feeling ready to finally tackle this bullshit.

“I need you to stay off the internet, keep your mouth shut, and tell your friends to do the same.” I arched a brow at her. “Look, I have family just like you. They’re probably chomping at the bit to get out there and defend you, but they might do more harm than good. We can’t have skewed or partial quotes floating around out there.” Her green eyes were regarding me sternly. “You don’t owe anyone anything, Titan.”

I was falling in love.

That’s what the feeling in my chest had to be.

I was falling in fucking love, and talk about the worst timing ever.

“Whatever you say, Ms. Leland,” I quipped.

She shot me an annoyed look. “I’ll write up a draft, we’ll go over it together, then we’ll issue your statement. Hopefully, by tomorrow morning.”

“I’m available to you for the next two days,” I informed her. “After that, we’re going to Miami.”

“We?”

“Baby, now that we’re a team, where I go, you go.” I winked at her just to annoy her more.

Chapter 8

Lux~

The Highland Wolves’ media room was standing room only, which said a lot since it was only nine o’clock in the morning. However, Titan and I had agreed on his statement yesterday afternoon, and neither of us had seen any reason to put it off for longer.

So, now we were all standing in a room full of reporters, me, Titan, Opal, Coach Madison, Evan Fletcher, and Jake Rodham. Titan was standing at the podium with his statement, and the rest of us were in the background where we belonged.
