Chapter 14

Lux~

Titan Miller’s charm was lethal and should be outlawed. In fact, everything about the man should be outlawed. His looks, his talent, his charisma, his damn near everything; it should all be outlawed.

I didn’t look Titan’s way as he drove us through the city to his place. When he had suggested going to his penthouse after dinner, I hadn’t argued. As soon as everyone had noticed us leaving the restaurant, Titan had been bombarded with requests for pictures and autographs, and with everyone congratulating him on their victory tonight, it would be assumed that Titan Miller would celebrate with his girlfriend, right? So, dropping me off at home would have looked suspicious, considering.

So, like a good ‘girlfriend’, I had agreed to go to his place, sure that his penthouse was big enough for the two of us. If nothing else, I could sleep on the couch if he didn’t have any guest rooms. No matter how hot Titan Miller was, no matter how attracted to him I was, no matter how curious I was about the man, I’d meant what I’d said about not having an itinerary in the bedroom. While I wasn’t a stranger to anal sex, it wasn’t something that had ever been planned. Plus, I’d also only had it with one other person before, and we had dated for three years before ending things.

Robert Baranski had probably been the closest that I’d ever come to love. We’d met when we’d both been twenty-two, starting out our careers. We’d had ambition in common, and it had worked for us until it hadn’t. Robert’s career had stabilized before mine, and it hadn’t taken him long to want children with a stay-at-home wife and mother if possible. In hindsight, my ambition had probably been the one thing keeping me from falling madly in love with Robert, and that was all that needed to be said about the three years that I had spent with the man.

Granted, it hadn’t been all bad. In fact, up until Robert had gotten his investment job at Prescott & Marion, things had been good; comfortable even. We’d had a good routine, a good sex-life, and we’d both been financially comfortable, not daring to live beyond our means while I’d still been trying to anchor my feet to something solid. If Robert ever crossed my mind, it was with fond memories.

As we pulled up to Titan’s building, I was surprised that it wasn’t crawling with reporters. Still, while the reputable reporters weren’t anywhere visible, that didn’t mean that the unsavory ones weren’t hiding behind a bush somewhere. It also didn’t take a genius to realize that Titan’s building was probably outfitted with the best security around. He probably even had a doorman.

I kept staring out the car window as Titan drove into an underground parking garage, something else that was to be expected from the looks of the building. I was also assuming that Titan had a penthouse, but why wouldn’t he? Did any star athletesnotlive in penthouses?

When Titan pulled into his parking space, I almost chuckled. Apparently, there were four penthouses on the top floor, and one of them belonged to Titan. Penthouse number two, to be exact. It made me wonder just how spacious the building was. It probably spanned half a block to house four penthouses up top.

Letting Titan play the gentleman, I waited patiently as he made his way around the hood of the car to come open the door for me. When Titan opened the door, he held out his hand, much like he’d had at the restaurant, and it was hard not to be impressed by a man with manners. The world was changing so quickly, and manners were becoming extinct in a sea full of narcissism.

After Titan clicked the key fob, he kept my hand in his as he led us to a set of elevators, and I could feel my stomach begin to flutter as we stepped into the steel box. There were three sets of two, which told me that this building was just as big as I’d suspected. What building needed six elevators for its residents? The penthouse buttons were also very obvious, only a key accessing the top floor.

The ride up was a quiet one, but I didn’t mind. It seemed as if any conversations that I had with Titan Miller ended up exhausting me. I always found myself lost after speaking with him, and I had no idea if that made me simple or him a master manipulator. Titan was a charmer, and he knew it, so when he unleashed it, was it intentional or could he just not help himself?

When the elevator doors slid open, we walked out into a stunning foyer that led into a single hallway. The aisle was wide enough to fit five people walking side-by-side, giving the residents on this floor plenty of breathing room. As Titan led me down the hall, I noticed that there were two penthouses on either side of the hallway, and I could only imagine how big each place was.

“This place reminds me of the hallway scene in the Shining,” I muttered, imagining it in the dark.

Titan chuckled. “It can.”

“I bet your women run out of here at night, afraid that a set of dead twins are coming after them.”

Titan stopped, then looked down at me. “Apart from Nova, Esme, and Sinclair, you’re the only woman that’s ever been to my place.”

That threw me for a loop. “That’s impossible.”

He shot me a look. “It’s very possible,” he said. “Considering that I limited all of my screwing around to away games, it’s the truth.”

I scowled. “There’s no way that you were celibate during the off-season.”

Titan smirked. “Baby, I own a passport.”

That had me rolling my eyes. “Of course.”

Without another word, Titan opened the door to his penthouse, and I was met with another stunning foyer. It was clear that Titan had paid a hefty sum for a professional decorator, and I was almost afraid to touch anything. I pictured women that wore heels on Sundays living in a place like this, and I bet Titan would never entertain the idea of a pet.

With my hand still in his, he led me through the penthouse, not really giving me any time to look around. We passed the sitting room, a dining room, and completely ignored the kitchen. It wasn’t until we came to another sitting room that I saw the real Titan Miller. Unlike the front rooms, this one looked like a regular living room with personal touches.

“You have an amazing place, Titan,” I said, stating the truth.

“The building’s security is the best,” he replied absently, like the luxurious aspects of his home didn’t matter. “Fans might know where I live, but they’ve never been an issue.”

Though it wasn’t late, it felt late. However, I attributed that to having Titan Miller in my life right now. Since day one, I’d gone to bed each night feeling exhausted as hell, and tonight was no different. I knew that my social media feeds were probably still lighting up with how I’d left the game, and that was another thing that could drain your energy if you let it.

“Want something to drink?” Titan asked, making me notice another kitchen, though smaller.

“What did you say in your post-game interview about me leaving?” I asked, knowing that he’d been asked, though I hadn’t watched the game or the interviews.
