“Have you seen his most recent press conference?”

I nodded. “I watched it about five minutes ago.”

“He didn’t sound like a man talking about a weekend fling, Lux,” she said, stating the obvious. “He sounded like a man in a relationship.”

“As he should,” I replied. “That’s the image that we had all agreed to sell to the public, remember?”

“That wasn’t a man parading in front of the cameras, Lux,” she gawked. “That was a man protecting what’s his at all costs.”

I leaned back in my seat. “Where’s the lecture about sleeping with clients?”

Opal snorted. “I hate to break it to you, Lux, but you’re not the first employee to sleep with one of their clients. How do you think Connor Rorick met his wife?”

“No,” I rushed out. “Really?”

She nodded. “Liza Rorick was being accused of embezzlement, and she hired us to help with the media backlash. Connor had been assigned as her PR agent.”

“He hooked up with a woman that was being accused of embezzlement? I can’t see it.” Connor Rorick was as straightlaced as they came.

“Turns out that she was in competition with her half-sister for their father’s company,” Opal explained. “The sister was trying to set her up, so that she could inherit everything. It was a scandal worthy of reality television.”

“Wow,” I remarked. “You learn something new every day.”

“He’s also not the only one,” she went on. “Workplace romances happen all the time, Lux. Even if it does have the potential to cause problems, Copy Lights doesn’t have a no-fraternizing policy in its employee handbook.”

“It’s still in bad form,” I muttered, not quite ready to let myself off the hook just yet.

“Lux, what’s really the issue here?” she asked, pointblank. “Do you really believe those women over Titan?”

“It’s not that,” I denied. “Not really.”

“Then what is it?”

“I just…who in their right mind wants to be in a relationship where random women are going to be constantly trying to break it up?” I asked. “The sad truth is that there are hateful people out there, and I can see Titan’s proclamation being interpreted as a challenge to some of them.” I gnawed at my lower lip. “That just sounds so damn exhausting, Opal.”

“Honey, if the hard knocks in life are going to exhaust you, then you’re in for a rough road ahead,” she huffed. “Plus, after that little stunt this morning, do you honestly believe that women are going to keep fucking with Titan Miller? I seriously doubt it.”

“Well, when we fought last night, he hadn’t made that speech to the world yet,” I grumbled.

Opal grinned. “Timing is everything.”

“You know, whenever I thought about married life, I had always pictured myself with a man that worked a regular job and would help me raise regular kids,” I told her. “I hadn’t wished for bigger or more than the average life. I had pictured happy but mundane. I had pictured satisfied but normal.” I shook my head. “I had never pictured a soccer megastar in my life.”

“Well, at the end of it all, it’s just his job, Lux,” she replied kindly. “He’s doing something that he’s good at, and that’s really any of us can wish for.”

“Even if I wanted to talk to him, Orion and Atlas are with him, and I don’t need an audience for the conversation that we obviously need to have,” I pointed out.

Giving me a terse nod, she said, “Well, now that Titan is taking care of his own public relations nightmare, I’m giving you Jalen Buckman.”

“What’s he done?”

Jalen Buckman was the newest up and coming country music star, and though I wasn’t one to listen to country music, the kid was everywhere, so it was hard not to know who he was. He had popped onto the music scene five years ago, nothing big at first, though he did have a set of pipes on him. The guy could actually sing without the help of technology, and his voice was made for love songs.

He was also a bit arrogant, though he tapped it down with that good, ol’ boy wholesome act that he puts on for his fans. The guy also had dimples, and those were always a dangerous thing to wield around. However, as far as I knew, he wasn’t troublesome.

“He got caught sleeping with Belamy Berkshire,” she replied.

My eyes widened at that. “Isn’t Belamy Berkshire married to Morgan Falco?”
