“Can you keepanysecrets?” I asked, directing my question at Sebastian.

“From my wife?” he scoffed. “Uh, no.”

“You’re forgiven,” Nova said. “I respect the bro-code.”

I just rolled my eyes. “I didn’t want to tell you anything until there was something to tell you.”

“Well, you can tell me the details when you come back home,” she offered graciously, letting it slide that I hadn’t called her first. “But I get to meet her first.”

“We already made plans to go see Orion after the Spartans win the Super Bowl,” Raven informed her. “Since she hates athletes, we’re going to do this in minor doses.”

“I object.”

I rolled my eyes. “Why, Nova?”

“She needs to know what she’s getting into straight from the gate,” she said.

“Esme didn’t,” Titan pointed out.

“Esme didn’t hate athletes,” Nova reminded him.

“I’m pretty sure that she hated Sire there for a bit,” Atlas snorted.

“Fuck you, dude.”

We all laughed.

“Look, I need to start getting ready for the game tonight,” I told them.

“How’s the shoulder?” Raven asked.

“Wait, there’s a shoulder story, too?” Nova asked.

“Goddamn it.”

“Oooooh, you’re in troooouuuble,” Titan taunted like a child.

“I’ll confess all my sins later, Nova,” I promised. “Just cut me some slack right now. I have a game tonight.”

“You’re lucky that I love you,” she huffed.

“That, I am,” I agreed.

“Okay, I need to get to bed,” Titan announced. “Good luck with Red Flag, and I’m happy for you, man.”

“We all are,” Raven added.

“Thanks, guys,” I replied, meaning it.

As soon as we all hung up, I sent Sinclair a text. It was like I’d gone from a grown ass man to an eighth-grade girl with her first crush, but I wasn’t going to fight it.

Me:Miss u

She replied immediately.

Basketball Hater: I miss u 2

Right now, I wasn’t even sure that a win would be worth being away from her for even one night.
