Sinclair placed her hands on my chest. “Calm down-”

“The fuck I will,” I hissed. “If you think that I’m going to allow another man to approach my girl to profess his fucking love, then you’re very, very, very wrong, baby.”

“It’s enough to feel sorry for his wife, trust me,” she drawled out.

“Not for me it isn’t,” I snapped.

“Orion?”

“Yeah?”

“There’s nothing there,” she said, trying to calm me down. “I have absolutely no feelings for Cap Aldrich. I mean, apart from regret and disappointment. Regret that I ever gave him the time of day, and disappointment in myself at how I’d been so clueless.”

“He still needs to know that it’s not okay to contact you,” I pointed out. “You might not mind, and you might very well be able to handle yourself, butImind.”

Sinclair rolled her eyes. “It’s not like I’m going to run into him at the grocery store or something.”

“I don’t give a fuck,” I bit out. “The fact that he thinks that he has a right to approach you at all is a problem. That takes nerve that needs to be cut off at the source.”

“There’s nothing there anymore,” she repeated.

“And it’s my job to make sure that it stays that way,” I informed her. “It’s my job to make sure that you never develop feelings for any other man but me.”

“By beating up every guy that talks to me?”

“No,” I drawled out. “By proving to you that no one will ever love you as much as I do. By proving to you that no one else will ever treat you as well as I do. By being the goddamn hero in your story.”

The wench’s lips twitched.

“I swear to God, I will bend you over my knee, Sinclair.”

“Can we not talk about Cap Aldrich or other guys?” she asked. “We have enough issues in our relationship without inviting extra drama into it.”

Picking my battles, I reached for her, then yanked her towards me again. “So, you’re admitting that there’s a relationship?”

Sinclair dropped her head against my chest, and it was hard not to feel like an asshole as I reveled in my win. My arms wrapped around her as I placed a kiss on the back of her head. Considering what Aldrich had put her through, I knew that giving me a second chance wasn’t easy for her. She had warned me, and I knew that she was feeling weak for going back on her word. All I could do was prove to her that I wasn’t a bad choice, and if it took me the rest of my life, then so be it.

“I know it’s all bullshit and that you have no reason to believe me, but I’ll never let you down again, baby,” I promised her. “Just like you’re not eager to go through that kind of heartbreak again, neither am I.” I kissed her head again. “When I thought that you had lied to me, it’d felt as if you had yanked out my still-beating heart, then stomped on it right in front of me. I have no desire to go through something like that again. None at all.”

“I’m not going to make this easy,” she warned. “I’m too…angry at myself to make this easy on you, Orion.”

“I can handle it.”

“I hope so,” she murmured softly.

“Say the word, and I’ll retire,” I said. “I’ll spend the rest of my days doing nothing but worshipping you, baby.”

Sinclair looked up at me. “Worshipping me, huh?”

I nodded. “Every fucking inch of you.”

“Oh, yeah?” she asked, her blue eyes flaring a bit, automatically making my dick hard.

I grabbed her hips, then lifted her, placing her on top of one of the conference tables. We were in one of the war rooms, usually reserved for the coaching staff. After the press conference, Coach Quincy had suggested that we use this room to take a moment before facing the media again. No doubt that they were all waiting for us outside the arena.

Stepping in between her spread legs, I leaned down, nipping her lower lip. “My favorite place is any orifice of yours that you’ll let me inside. So, if given the choice between playing basketball and being home with you, I’ll choose you every time, baby.”

“While that sounds tempting, it’s not much for a retirement plan,” she teased.
