MILLIE

Istare at myself in the mirror. I’m engaged. I am anengaged woman.

Nope. Still sounds ridiculous.

I wish I could call Danielle, but the production team still has my phone. I don’t know if Danielle would approve of me trying to purposefully sabotage the situation.

I look over at the white cotton dress they’re making me wear. I’m guessing this was Tiffany’s idea.

Macey and Alex come barreling in. I look forward to chatting with them every day. They’re the only thing I’m going to miss once this is all over.

Their lives are fascinating; they’re usually hired together because everyone likes their dynamic, so they’re best friends traveling around doing what they love. They remind me of Danielle and me.

I’ve told them all about our weirdly codependent friendship and instead of making me feel crazy like everyone else, they chimed in with about ten stories about their own friendship.

“Hey girl, hey.” Alex leaps over and kisses me on the cheek.

“Hey there, fiancée. Can I say that if it’s not me you’re engaged to?” Macey engulfs me in a hug.

“I’m not sure,” I say into her flawless silky hair that is currently covering my face.

Macey starts prepping my skin. “I knew it!”

“I didn’t!” I reach for my coffee. “Hello, Natalie wasright there. She’s flawless and perfect to be a corporate wife. I’m not.”

“So, you’re thinking you’ll end up marry him?” Alex raises his eyebrows.

“God, no.” I put my hand on my chest.

“Told you.” Macey smiles smugly. “You owe me twenty bucks.”

“You bet on this?” I pretend to be shocked.

“Alex over there is a hopeless romantic and I think I’ve gotten about five hundred bucks off him through these bets. Gotta hustle where I can honey, sorry.”

I laugh. I respect the hustle.

“Remember Jordan and Kelsey? Anna and Steve? And my favorite, Kara and Lily!” Alex swoons.

“Those are only a few couples out of a dozens that we’ve seen. It’s like catching lightning.” Macey rolls her eyes. “Do you need meto fan myself with your money from over the years to make my point?”

“Not necessary.”

They continue bantering back and forth as they get me ready.

I close my eyes and take a sip of coffee. If I’m going to do this, I need to look on the bright side. I’m in The Bahamas. I get to wear nice clothes. I get to hang out with Macey and Alex. At the end of this, I get a fat wad of money to start the next chapter of my life.

I get changed and Alex and Macey are waiting for me as I exit the bathroom.

“Aww, look at you.” Alex twirls me around.

“Can you believe they put me in white?”

“Yes,” they say in unison.

“But lucky for you, you look amazing. Trust me, not everyone can pull it off.” Alex bumps his hip against Macey.

Macey looks around. “Have you packed everything?”
