Millie splashes the water with her feet, and I jolt back to reality.

She takes a sip of her cocktail, which is almost empty.

“Can I make you another?” I offer.

“Oh, uh, sure.” She awkwardly tries to paddle over.

I stifle a laugh. “What is this, exactly?”

She slurps up the last bit. “I don’t really know. It was a mixture of vodka, gin, and a bunch of the colored syrups.”

I hold up the glass to give it a sniff to see if I can tell what she used. “Okay, I’ll do my best.”

Much to Sienna’s dismay, I usually make my own drinks. Technically it’s part of her job, but I see no need to bother her.

I put Millie’s glass down and quickly run up to my room to get changed into something a bit more comfortable.

After ten minutes of trying to come up with a concoction for Millie that I’m happy with, I walk out with our drinks.

“It’s not the same as what you had, but based on what you might’ve put in it, I think you’ll like this.” I put it down next to the lounge chair that she has now claimed.

She lowers her sunglasses so she can inspect it. She takes a sip and her eyes go wide. “Oh my goodness, that’s delicious. What is that?”

I’m taken aback by her enthusiasm. This is a different side of her.

“Just something I used to make when I was a bartender back in the day.” I sip on my whiskey.

She takes another sip and nods. “Well, you’ve still got it. When I leave here I’m going to need your chef’s special sauce and a recipe for that drink.”

I raise my eyebrows. She’s tried Chef’s special sauce, interesting. He usually only whips that out on special occasions.

I feel at ease with this version of Millie.

“We’ll negotiate.” I grin as I take a sip of my drink.

“Fine.” She points her glass at me. “But only if I also get Natalie in our custody battle, because she’s lovely.”

She laughs and it feels like warm sunshine on my skin.

“Wow, tough terms. I’m glad you two made friends, though. At least you got something out of this whole situation.”

I feel bad that I ruined whatever Millie wanted out of this.

She stares at her drink for a second. “Speaking of which, Tiffany must be having a coronary right now.”

I wonder how much she knows. “She’s definitely someone you want on your side.”

Millie smiles. “Oh, definitely. She’s strong and fierce and a total badass!”

I remember seeing her hyping up the girls before every shot. Tiff has always been loyal and a shark when it comes to making sure other people don’t boss her around. She demands respect and nothing less.

“Tell me the truth, then,” Millie says. “Which date was the worst?”

I almost spit out my drink.

She barely pauses. “And why was it Lana?”

I laugh. “What did you hear?”
