“Knock, knock. Millie? I’m Dr. Lopez.” He walks to the end of the bed.

I feel like my heart is in my chest and I hold my breath.

Aaron reaches out and grabs my hand. I squeeze it tight.

He looks at me. “Don’t worry, it’s not bad news.”

I let out a massive sigh of relief.

The doctor glances at Aaron and then me. Oh gosh, what is it?

“You’re pregnant.”

Aaron drops my hand.

I put my hand on my chest. I’mwhat?Oh my God. How did this… what did this… Oh my God, Aaron.

I look at Aaron. “I swear I had no idea.”

CHAPTER 23

AARON

The last thing I expected was for Millie to show up out of the blue. I never thought I’d see her again.

The sight of her being loaded into the ambulance put everything into perspective.

I’ve never felt fear quite like when she collapsed in my arms.

The ambulance workers tried to tell me to meet her at the hospital, but I lied and told them I was her husband. I knew it was the only way they would let me go with her, and there was no way I wasn’t going to make sure she was okay. I’ve never felt so helpless in my life.

Seeing her in the ambulance, I knew that I would do whatever it took to make sure she was okay. All I wanted was to hold her in my arms, but I that wouldn’t be appropriate given how I treated her. The best I could do was just sit there and stroke her hand.

I couldn’t stop myself from touching her in some way. There’s still such a pull toward her. I can’t help it.

“You’re pregnant.”

I drop her hand out of pure shock. She’s pregnant?!

My stomach churns. I know I have no right to her or her body, but even after all this time I still feel so connected to her. I can’t stand the idea of some other guy touching her, making love to her.

She looks at me. “I had no idea, I swear.”

Wait. Does that mean it’s mine?

I don’t want to get my hopes up. She could’ve been with someone before she came to The Bahamas, or even after.

Sensing that there’s more for us to discuss, the doctor excuses himself and leaves.

Millie starts to talk but I stop her. “Is it mine?”

She nods once. “Yes.”

I stand up. “Are you sure?”

“Without a doubt,” she says. “You’re the only person I’ve been with in months.”

I smile. “Really?”
