Touch is an astonishing thing. One person’s touch can be so appalling while another’s touch can be purely erotic and relaxing. Laura’s touch is always the most amazing kind. No matter what I’m going through, she puts me high in the sky with the caress of a single finger.

Our bubble pops from the slamming of my truck door as Gillian climbs out. She doesn’t go to Donatello like we planned, but comes over to us, pulling out her pocket knife.

“I’m so glad you’re okay,” Gillian mutters before cutting the binds around Laura’s arms and legs. Laura untangles herself from me and throws her arms around Gillian. Their eyes are wet with tears and full of regrets.

“You don’t have to do this. Don’t go with him,” Laura begs as she pulls back, but for once there isn’t a cocky or defiant look on Gillian’s face. Her expression is humble at most.

“I know I don’t, but I am.” Laura opens her mouth to argue, but Gillian beats her to it. “You were right about me. I could never accept blame and maybe on some level I’ve been jealous of you. You’ve always had guys falling at your feet and for good reason. You're good, kind, and decent and I’ll never be like you. I’m a bitch and selfish and a slut.” Gillian shrugs as if to sayit is what it isbefore a stray tear falls down her face. “And that’s okay. I’m me and that’s good enough for the right people. I refused to go with him before because San Jose is my home, but you’ve taught me something over these past three weeks. It’s not where you are but who you’re with. If I stay here, I’ll ruin you, little sister. I’m damaging and you deserve better. I’m going to Texas with the only man I’ve ever loved and you’ll stay here with yours, but this isn’t goodbye. We’ll talk all the time and maybe we’ll have a nice little family vacation one day. Me and my family and you and your family. I bet you guys are going to be great parents. You definitely helped me grow up a little.”

Every cell in my body freezes instantly. Parents? That’s something I’ve never even thought of and it’s something I would rather keep far out of my conscious mind for me to contemplate later when I’m in the right state of mind, not now. Not here.

“Okay.” Laura concedes and the sisters share another hug before my woman returns to my arms, pressing herself to my chest. I relax at her touch, kissing the top of her head, as I watch Gillian make her way over to Donatello.

“My love,” he grins, but is not expecting it when she slaps him across the face.

“What the hell is wrong with you? How dare you fucking kidnap my sister! Do you have any idea what that did to me, Nat? My sister was fucking gone!” She shoves him and I wonder if he’s going to fight back, but he just smirks, amusement across his face.

“I’m sorry, love, but you know me.” He pulls her into his arms and the way their eyes lock is intense. “I’d scour the ends of the Earth looking for you.”

“Don’t do that,” she mutters, but he leans into her and steals a kiss. She caves and the way they grab each other is a bit uncomfortable, even for me.

A few moments later, Gillian, Donatello, and his goons are gone.

Laura’s bright blue eyes gaze up at me with both confusion and worry. “What are we going to do now?”

I’ve had the same thought periodically since Laura told Gillian to leave last night. Gillian was our buffer, our protective shield, and now she’s riding off into the sunset.

Before I have the chance to say anything at all, Chucky pops up around my truck.

“Hey, little lady.”

“Chucky,” she sighs as she gives him a brief hug, which surprises me.

“Good to see you’re safe,” he offers before flashing her an earnest smile.

She turns her gaze back to me. “Is it a good idea to have all of the club here?” she asks, but her eyes say she trusts my judgment.

“It wouldn’t be. Good thing this isn’t all of the club.” I shrug as her eyes widen.

“This is everyone loyal to your man and his Sacred Law.” Chucky spreads out his arms, motioning to all of the roaring motorcycles behind my truck.

The smile that grows across Laura’s face is the best thing I’ve ever witnessed, except when she orgasms. It’s a close second.

“Your Sacred Law?” She loops her arms around my neck as I chuckle.

“Well, it needed a name.”

“I like it. It’s very fitting, Xander Davenport.”

I dip my head down and give her a deep kiss, relieved that I have Laura back. I swear I’ll never let anyone take her from me again.

CHAPTER28

LAURA

Iroll over into Xander’s chest as his fingers stroke down my spine in endless infinity loops.

I don’t know the state of our apartment, but I know whatever it’s like will take repairs so we’re staying at a hotel in the meantime.
