“No. I’ve got enough to deal with right now.” She looked toward the creek and watched J.T. wading in the water with Finn. “I’m afraid my heart lies elsewhere.”

Sage took her arm. “Seriously?”

“Yes. Don’t hate me all over again. I can’t help it. I never got over him. But don’t worry. We have enough to navigate right now without complicating things.”

Joey added the last part in a way that made Sage not quite believe her. “Actually, I think it’d be kind of great.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. He never got over you, either. Of course, he probably won’t admit that. Finn has been a shock. But I can see you two working things out and making a life together.”

Joey sucked in a breath. “I don’t know. I think he’s going to fight that for a while.”

“Maybe. He is stubborn. Be patient with him. He has a lot to figure out.”

“I’m just glad he and all of you have been so welcoming. I don’t deserve it, for sure.”

When Sage saw Xander take off his shirt and head to the creek with the kids, she gasped. “Oh my gosh.”

Joey looked in Xander’s direction. “Oh wow. That’s nice.”

They both laughed and Sage shook her head. “Okay. I admit it, I totally have a crush on him.”

“These men have way too much power over us. They smile, or take off their shirt, and we fall apart.”

Sage put a hand on Joey’s arm. “We’re pretty powerful, too. J.T. didn’t spend the night of the storm with you, or invite you to this camp out for no reason. He wants to spend time with you.”

Joey watched Xander and the kids in the water. “I think you have a much bigger battle to fight than I do. Five kids is pretty overwhelming.”

“Yeah. But look at him.”

Joey laughed. “He is cute.” She looked at J.T. with Finn. “As is your brother.”

Sage sighed. “I do have two good-looking brothers. I have to agree with that. Sawyer with his muscles is just ridiculous.”

“Yes. I had the pleasure of seeing him without a shirt a couple of weeks ago. Quite impressive.”

“I just wish he’d bring his muscles home to stay. I hate it when he’s gone.”

“I think he’ll end up back here. The pull of the family is pretty hard to fight.”

“I guess.” She looked toward the horses. “Do you want to help me make sure the horses are good for the night?”

“Sure.” She glanced at Sage as they started walking toward the corral. “Thank you, Sage.”

“For what?”

“For being nice to me. I could use a friend right now.”

Sage nudged her. “Friends now. Sisters-in-law someday?”

“I guess we’ll see. It’d really be cool if you made me sister-in-law to Mr. Hot Bakery Guy.”

Sage laughed. “Wow. That’s probably not going to happen.”

“You never know.”

“Oh, I know. Five kids. I just have to keep thinking about the five kids.”
