“That’s cool.” She looked at him. “They’re really cute together.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

“Are you jealous?”

“Of my dad? No way.”

“Hmm. I think you are. Just a little bit. They’re really happy. They exude happiness.”

J.T. sighed loudly. “I’m happy.”

“Are you?”

He looked closely at her. “Right at this moment, yeah.”

She shrugged. “What does that mean, J.T.?”

He brushed some hair from her cheek. “It means, here, under a Montana sky, sitting next to you, it’s hard to be mad at you for anything.”

“What about tomorrow in the daylight? Are you going to hate me again?”

“I thought we were past that. I don’t hate you, Josephina. I could never hate you. Even when I hated you. I didn’t hate you.”

She smiled. “That’s kind of confusing.”

“Let me see if I can clear it up a little.” He put his arms around her and pulled her in close, then leaned in and kissed her.

She pulled back a few inches and whispered. “Okay. I think I’m beginning to understand.”

He kissed her again.

Once again, she looked at him. “Are you going to regret this tomorrow?”

He smiled. “Probably.” He pulled her in closer and kissed her long and hard. Joey wrapped her arms around his neck and he whispered in her ear. “Let’s just worry about tonight.”

Sage led the singing for nearly an hour. After she set her guitar aside, everyone started slowly dispersing to the tents. Xander, who had been on the other side of the fire, sent Olivia and Oliver to bed, then walked over to Sage.

He smiled at her. “Very impressive. You have a beautiful voice.”

“Thank you. Are you headed to bed?”

“Soon. Can I sit for a minute?”

“Of course.”

“Where did your brother head off to?”

“Who knows? I knew he’d take off as soon as I brought out the guitar.”

“Well, he missed out.”

Sage took a sip of her water bottle. “Where did you move from?”

“Sacramento. My brother and I owned a bakery there. We specialized in cakes and special occasion pastries and confections.”

“Candy?”

“Some, yes. Chocolate-covered strawberries on Valentine's Day. Stuff like that.”
