She raised an eyebrow. “Yeah. You did.” She looked at Jake. “I mean for them. They didn’t embarrass themselves or the family or anything.”

Sawyer nodded at Ember. “Ember mixed up some magic for us. Brought us right back.”

Jacob laughed. “Having a nurse in the family continues to pay off.”

Jake put his arm around the back of her chair. “It does come in quite handy.”

Ember set her fork down and took a drink of her coffee. “Even though you feel like you’re all better, still drink the second dose tonight.”

Sawyer nodded. “I need your recipe for that. I could use it while I’m training.”

“I’ll write it down for you.”

Jake looked at him. “When’s your next fight, son?”

“June thirteenth. I’ll need to go back a week or so after Memorial Day.”

Jake smiled. “Can’t miss Memorial Day weekend in Castle Springs.”

Ember looked at him. “What happens on Memorial Day?”

Sage laughed. “What doesn’t happen?”

Jake turned in his seat toward Ember. “It’s a lot like the Fourth of July in Schaeffer Mills. Craft fair, farmer’s market, food booths.”

“A parade down main street,” Sage added.

Sawyer grinned. “Yeah. Then we do it all again for the Fourth. Only we add fireworks.”

Ember smiled. “Sounds fun. So, it’s over the weekend?”

“Yes. Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, we go fishing and have a barbecue.”

“Grilled trout?”

Jake gave her a wink. “Well, usually steak. But we can grill a few trout. We’ll have to fish the river instead of the pond if we want trout.”

“I don’t want to ruin your tradition.”

“You’re not. Fly-fishing the river sounds great.”

“Can I go with you? Or is it a guy thing?”

“It’s a family thing.”

Sawyer nudged Sage. “Little Sis here is actually a decent fisherman. Or woman.” He raised an eyebrow. “Fishergirl?”

Sage looked at Ember. “I’m more than a decent fishergirl.”

Jake nodded. “She’s right. She is.”

“That’s because I learned from the best.”

Jacob cleared his throat. “I ah… Well, Lucy has been such a help these last several months since the stroke. And while you were gone. I thought I’d ask her to come to the barbecue.”

Jake smiled. “Dad, as far as I’m concerned, Lucy is family. She always has been. Of course she can come. Does she fish?”

“She used to. I think it’s been a while.”
