“We don’t run the camp, but we let them use one of our barns and the horses. I’m also a counselor.”

“Wow. That sounds like a possibility. But ah, after buying the bakery, I don’t have a lot of money.”

Sage shook her head. “There are scholarships, family discounts, and some sponsorships available. I can hook you up.”

“Really? You’d do that for us?”

She smiled. “It’d be my pleasure. If it will help you out and if you think the kids wouldn’t mind spending the summer learning how to ride and take care of horses, we can make that happen for you.”

“I don’t know what to say. That’s really generous.”

She shrugged. “And there’s more than just riding horses. We do arts and crafts. Play games. And one weekend each session we do an overnight campout. Singing, marshmallows. The works.”

“That would be a lifesaver. I don’t know what to say.”

“Say, yes. Sign us up!”

He smiled. “Yes. Please, sign us up.”

She nodded. “Done.” She watched the kids for a moment. “Will you introduce them to me?”

“Of course.” Xander whistled and the kids all looked in his direction, then came running over to him. He glanced at Sage. “With so many of them, we need a get your ass over here whistle.”

“I see that.”

He smiled at the children. “Kids, this is Sage. She’s from one of the ranches around here.” He pointed to the kids from oldest to youngest as he said their names. “We have Olivia, Oliver, Owen, Oscar, and Olive.”

“Oh my. All O’s. I love it.”

“It can be a problem sometimes.” He looked at the kids. “Okay, as you were. Ten more minutes, then we’re going home.”

“Where are you living with this crew?”

“The place we’re in is a little small. But our move here was kind of sudden and I didn’t think it was going to be permanent. I’m looking for something bigger.”

“Have you seen that big Victorian on School Street?”

“The one that’s painted a bunch of different colors?”

“Yes. It’s really cool. And the inside is even better. My friend's family owns it and rents it out because they live on their ranch. I can see if it’s available.”

Xander laughed. “I’m sure I can’t afford it.”

“I’ll talk to them. You never know. It’s not like there’s a list of people waiting for rentals around here. We don’t get many new people moving into town.”

“Well, again, thank you.” He looked at her for a moment. “From our previous encounters, I was under the impression you didn’t like me that much.”

She smiled. “Well, you are slightly annoying. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to help you out if I can.”

“Hmm. I found you slightly annoying, too.”

“How about now? Have you changed your mind?”

“Yeah. I think I have.”

She smiled. “So, I have you fooled, then.”
