“Of course. We have to go. Since it falls on a Sunday, there will be stuff going on all day.”

He nodded. “I think my hands have stopped shaking enough for me to be able to hold on to my sandwich.”

Ember laughed, then took their sandwichesfrom the bag they brought. She handed him one. “Your jump was rather impressive.”

“How so?”

“Well, you climbed right up on that limb like…”

“I wasn’t forty-something?”

“You’re obviously in good shape.” She looked away from him and blushed.

John laughed. “Thank you for noticing.”

“It must be from all that cowboying you apparently do.”

“So, you no longer think I’m a business man? You think I’m a ranch hand somewhere?”

“No. I don’t think you’re a ranch hand. I think you probably run things. Like a…trail boss or something.”

“A trail boss is in charge of a cattle drive.”

“Whatever. I’m not up on my cowboy lingo. You’re a ranch hand manager.”

“Okay. That works, I guess. I believe the term is ranch foreman.”

“Then that. Are you still cold?”

“Just my legs and…rear end. If I’d gone in without my pants, I’d be warm and dry now.”

“And you’d be sitting here by yourself.”

John laughed. “You’re a nurse. You’ve probably seen hundreds of naked men.”

“Totally different. Helping some ill man onto the bedpan is way different from…this.”

“I suppose it is.” He grinned at her. “You haven’t looked directly at me since I came out ofthe water.”

“Sure I have.”

“Would you like me to put my shirt on?”

She sighed. “Yes, please.”

John laughed again. “Oh, Ember. Once again, I’m not sure what to do with you.” She handed him his t-shirt, and he put it on. “You make me think about things I shouldn’t think about.”

She finally looked at him. “Like what?”

“If I told you, then I’d be thinking about them.” He finished his sandwich. “Hand me a Chocolaty Chippity.”

She handed him a cookie, then looked at him. “Are you still worried that you have a wife out there?”

“I have to, don’t I? I can’t just decide I don’t and…I have to.”

“It is a real possibility.”

“Exactly. But there’s also the fact I could be old enough to be your father.”
