"No, I absolutely refuse," I responded defiantly.

"Just be quiet and return to where you came from, Skye!" Kenneth snapped, attempting to assert his dominance despite our mere one-minute age difference. He knew his efforts were in vain, particularly since I had interrupted whatever he had been doing.

"Well, I wonder what Mom will think of her own son..." I drawled out the last sentence, hoping to make it cringe-worthy for him.

"I never should have let you in," he groaned.

"And I never should have come inside," I added.

"I never should have even checked who was knocking," he retorted.

"And I never should have knocked," I replied. These were our usual methods of arguing and fighting, but the exchange only lasted a mere three minutes. I still held a deep disdain for my brother Kenneth due to his bossiness and incredible annoyance. "Well, I hope Mom discovers the truth," I threatened sternly.

"I can do whatever I want. Mom isn't here," he declared nonchalantly, his words hanging in the air. I merely rolled my eyes, a silent message intended for my brother, Kenneth.

"Well, I hope you'll have the decency to tidy up before Mom returns," I retorted firmly.

"Don't worry, it'll be spotless, like nobody ever lived here!" he promised.

"I certainly hope you're taking precautions. You wouldn't want to find yourself responsible for a child with a woman you know nothing about!" I cautioned, alluding to the consequences of engaging in unprotected sex, drawing from Mom's own painful past.

"I won't bore you with the details of my contraceptive methods!" he retorted defensively.

"Please spare me from such explicit language!" I interjected sharply, feeling a twinge of irritation at the suggestion. It was, after all, a topic too mature for someone as innocent as myself. After all, I was only seventeen!

"Then I'll be getting back to my business," he declared, alluding to the explicit activities he was involved in. It was hard to fathom that he would partake in something like this, but deep down, I knew one day it would resurface to haunt me.

Ultimately, he was just a man driven by his insatiable desire for sexual encounters, which only reminded me more of Dax. I scolded myself, urging my mind to refrain from dwelling on such thoughts.

"Well, I couldn't care less about your choices," I finally retorted, refusing to engage any further.

"Why are you even here, anyway?" Kenneth inquired.

"What kind of question is that? Can't I return to my own home again?"

"You haven't been home in a month, which is why I'm asking."

"That's none of your concern... I'm only here to seek some rest!" I replied.

"You're aware of how late it is to be arriving at this hour."

"I'm aware..."

"So why didn't you stay at Tresa's place?" He asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.

"Well, me and her got into a fight... or rather, she got into a fight with me," I explained reluctantly, the memory still fresh in my mind.

"Should I even ask why?"

"Hell no... because I'm not telling you!" I responded, shooting him a disgusted look before refocusing on my steps. The darkness made it difficult to see, so I switched on my phone's flashlight to guide my way.

I paid no attention to whatever Kenneth was up to; it simply wasn't my concern. We weren't very close, only about thirty percent close, if I had to rate our sibling bond. He loves to play the role of the mature one, boasting about his experience in front of our mother, but in reality, he falls short.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about them. If he has the money to move out right now, I'm willing to bet his apartment will be filled with women.
