“I wanted to slap the bitch! I can’t stand reporters like her. Always after the story and not thinking about the impact a question like that could cause!” Alex pulled me closer, wrapping his arms around me. “How are you feeling being here?”

“Honestly? Strange. I keep thinking she’ll turn up. Milly always had a way of inviting herself to things. Every place I go in this city holds a fucking memory of her. It doesn’t help that not all of her talk show signs are down yet. I’ve seen her face twice today, and wanted to break down. It’s like I can’t breathe, like a piece of me died with her. I miss her, Straight Lace, so fucking much!” The urgency of his kiss told me that Alex needed me. I was his solace, and I gladly let him take over my body again.

Chapter Seventeen

Once the book tour was over, Alex went into full-swing with the world tour. It was still six months away, but the preparation was something that had to be started early.

It was another way for him to distract himself. He was talking about Milly and letting his emotions out at night when he needed to, and I was always there to listen.

The Hollywood mansion was full of people most of the time, just like the old days. If it wasn’t Cody, Masen and Lance around, it was Naomi, the tour manager, and her crew or the concert producer, Scott Conley. Alex and I hardly had any time alone, except for at night. Even Matt had been over a few times to jam with the guys.

I was trying to trust Matt, but it didn’t come easy. Alex had forgiven him for everything. I was a Steel Roses groupie, so I should have been ecstatic watching them all play in Alex’s studio, but knowing that Matt had allowed my rock star to carry around all the guilt of Ness overdosing for years, when really Matt had been the last person to last see her alive…that shit made me combust. I’d have to say my piece with Matt at some point, but not while the entire band was trying to mend bridges. It was all about timing. Surprisingly, Matt hadn’t tried to get in on the tour. Rock Records owned Steel Roses—legally, he couldn’t anyway—but there was something magical about watching Alex and Matt finally get on again.

“Try that rift again,” Alex called over to Matt. Placing a basket of chocolate on his sound desk, Alex gave me a little wink. “Lance, pay attention. You’ll need to nail this on the first night.” Fuck, Alex holding his legendary guitar still did things to me. They weren’t singing, but I could tell by the strings played it was their classic, Slay Me.

“No fucking pressure then,” Lance snorted, holding his guitar pick in his mouth. He was too modest. I’d seen Lance do some incredible guitar solos!

“It’s easy, Lance!” Matt strummed his guitar. “You hold the string that extra second, feel the build up, then floor it!” Okay, I couldn’t deny that Matt was a phenomenal guitar player. Everyone in the room stood in awe as he played the solo flawlessly.

“Fuck, Matty! You made me cum!” Mason called from behind the drum set. Cody smacked him around the back of the head. “What?”

“You’re getting as weird as Zach from The Midnight Outcasts. You’ll be sticking drumsticks up your ass like he does next!” Ava had told me that story, but I didn’t have the heart to tell Cody that it was her butt the drumsticks went up, not Zach’s. I was learning a lot about my new friend Ava, with her doing the accounts remotely. I’d even spoken to her about my miscarriages. Ava had been amazing to talk to. Apparently, she had a friend back home that couldn’t have children. Her friend and partner were now in the final stages of adopting. Ava made me realise that whatever was mapped out for me was meant to be. All I had to do was trust the journey. I’d come this far and found Alex. Found him under extraordinary circumstances when I thought back to the concert he’d noticed me at. What were the odds that an ordinary girl like I was back then would have even turned his head? My face being imprinted in his mind until he saw me years later astounded me. That had to count for something. Whether it meant we’d have a biological child or an adopted one, either way, Alex and I would be parents!

I was slowly healing the broken parts of me. When I thought about the person I’d been last year, I realised how far I’d come. My grief hadn’t gone away and never would. I was simply building my life around it. If I sat and thought about all the tiny lives that had been taken from Alex and me, tears still formed in my eyes. That familiar ache in my heart still hurt, but life had to go on.

So many things were happening with Alex's career right now that I hardly had time to think about our lost angels. Sometimes, in the dark of the night when the whole mansion was sleeping, I’d occasionally wake up and go out onto the balcony to stargaze and remember them. It gave me a strange comfort to imagine them as stars, looking down on us.

Alex stretched in the bed, pulling me toward him. “I don’t want the alarm to go off,” he whispered, nibbling my earlobe with his mouth. “We don’t seem to get enough alone time at the moment.”

“You have a world tour to prepare for,” I snorted, wiggling my ass against his growing erection.

“Maybe I should cancel it and spend the whole year fucking you.” His hands slipped into my vest to palm my breasts. “Why are you always so tempting?”

“I wake up an hour before you to brush my hair and teeth, and then put natural makeup on,” I teased, turning slightly to look at Alex's amused face.

“I wouldn’t be shocked if that was true, but I have smelt your morning breath on a few occasions.”

“Hey!” I laughed. “You’re meant to be charming.” Alex gently pushed me down until my back hit the mattress.

“Oh, I’ll be charming…from between your legs,” Alex purred, climbing on top of me, capturing my lips with his. I couldn’t argue with that as his lips began to move down my body. When his tongue licked against my folds, my body arched toward him. “Mmm…always ready for me, baby. We need to make this quick, okay? The alarm will go off in twenty minutes.” We could do a lot in that amount of time. All I wanted was to feel him inside me, though.

“Fuck me,” I gasped. “Make me cum quick and fuck me!” Alex didn’t need to be told twice. Within minutes, I was coming on his tongue. While I came down from my climax, Alex thrust inside me. I wrapped my legs around his waist as the tempo increased. His kisses were urgent on my lips.

“Fuck, Straight Lace, the way you grip my cock. Shit!” He was losing it, and I could feel the coil inside me begin to twitch. With a few more thrusts, we came as one. The alarm began to sound a few moments later. “Well, that was a better way to wake up.” Pecking my lips, he jumped off me, heading toward the bathroom.

The temptation to join him in the shower was high, but it was the first stage rehearsal today. I knew Alex couldn’t be late. I had a busy office day, too. A world tour created a lot of paperwork.

“Do you think you’ll have time to visit today?” Alex asked once he was showered and dressed. “Lance will be there today. Matt even said he’d drop by to check on Lance’s timing.”

“I’ll try my best. I’ve got meetings with Ava, Gina and our new signing, Heatwave, today. I’ll get Liv to film anything that I wouldn’t want to miss.”

Alex pouted. “I miss having you as my PA. What if we swap you and Liv around?”

“That would be a disaster,” I snorted. “Once you start the world tour, I’ll be with you for most of your gigs. Gina will be fine running things in the office with Iris.”

“Is it bad that I’m counting down the weeks?” Nine weeks…that was all it was until Alex’s first tour in six years would kick off in Boston.

“You are going to be amazing!” I breathed against his mouth as he leaned down to kiss me one last time. “Now get going, or you’ll be late!” With one last smirk toward me, Alex left.
