The office was quiet, I’d made it in a little earlier than usual. Claire was already in and made me a coffee when she saw me.

“Thanks. Has everything been sent over to the accountants? I want to get all the loans secured for the tour by the end of the day. Ava is consolidating them all at the weekend.”

“We’re waiting for one more. I’ll chase them down this morning.” With that, Claire left, and I set about my day.

Liv kept me up to date with the rehearsals. According to her, Matt jammed with them and sounded amazing. Lance was hitting that perfect rift for Slay Me now. After all my meetings, I asked if Ava wanted to come and watch the rest of the rehearsal. The woman almost bit my arm off with excitement.

“I was sixteen the last time I saw all of Steel Roses,” Ava squealed as we walked past security. I could hear the faint sound of drums in the distance. “I might need a change of panties! What time is it in the UK right now?”

“Three in the morning,” I replied, giving Ava a frown.

“Shit! Bella will kill me if I wake them up at that time. I’ll record it and send it to her later!”

“Is that your friend that’s adopting?” Ava nodded, smiling warmly at me before we entered the large warehouse the band was practising in.

“Holy fucking shit! Don’t tell Zach, but I just came!” Ava groaned, taking them all in.

It was quite a sight in front of us. Alex was in tight, fitted jeans, with his white shirt hanging open. I was surprised he hadn’t taken it off. Lance was sweaty and pumped up in his leather trousers and black vest. Cody and Mason were topless but in fitted jeans. Matt was the only one still fully dressed, but he must have arrived a little later. They were playing one of Alex’s new songs, Taste You.

Ava went over to join Liv, Shane and a few other people I didn’t recognize. The moment Alex spotted me, he signalled for the guys to stop playing and jumped off the stage, making his way toward me, slipping out of his shirt as he did. Sexy fucker!

“Hey, baby,” Alex purred, pulling me into his embrace. “You made it!”

“The videos Liv sent me were too hot. I bought Ava, too. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Of course, I don’t. Take a seat,” he winked, kissing the breath out of me. “You might need to cross your legs at some parts.” Slapping my ass, he went back onto the stage.

“I don’t think I’ve ever gotten used to watching Alex slap your ass,” Liv greeted me with a smirk. “How do you compose yourself so well?”

“He probably spanks her on a weekly basis,” Ava teased. “Come to think of it, you are walking a little funny today. What did Alex do to you last night?”

“It was this morning actually, and a woman ever tells,” I joked, getting a laugh from them both.

“Did you read all the parts about her in his book?” Ava asked Liv. “He noticed her at a concert!”

“Yeah, I was the friend she laughed at in the book.” Liv snorted. “At least I got a mention.” These two loved playing me up. They were quickly becoming friends.

“How has Matt been?” I asked Liv. “No arguments or anything?”

“No, I think he generally is here to help.” Looking toward the stage, we watched Matt and Alex goof off, and it was a satisfying thing to witness. But my mind still cried out, ‘Please, Matt, don’t break his heart! Please be the friend Alex needs right now!’

“Matt is joining us for dinner tonight,” Alex mentioned while everyone was getting ready to leave. “Is that okay? The rest of the guys are going home, though.”

“It’s your mansion. You don’t have to ask for my permission.” Kissing his lips softly, I sighed. “You sounded amazing. Your album went platinum yesterday. I got an email earlier.” I was waiting until we were alone to tell him.

“Wow! I have a book in the top ten and a platinum album?”

“You sure do,” I beamed, watching Matt walk toward us.

“Can I get a lift with you guys since you’ve invited me for dinner?” he asked, looking a bit uncomfortable. Was that my fault? Did I put Matt on edge?

“Sure, man. Come on. I’m fucking staving. Mary will have a feast ready for us when we get back.”

Mary had roasted a ham and made a few tasty salads to go with it, all waiting for us when we got back. Alex rushed upstairs to change quickly before he ate, leaving Matt and me alone.

“You still don’t trust me, do you?” Matt questioned sadly, taking a seat opposite me.

“You broke him! Can you blame me?”
