When she sat down, more pitchers of beer were delivered and once more a slew of singers performed. Finally, when Sidonie called for any remaining stragglers to bring their karaoke slips up to her, Vivi tugged on Lincoln’s shirt.

“Come on, pick a song,” she said.

He sighed and pulled the songbook close, and after flipping a few pages, he pointed to one. “This is it.”

“Okay, I like this song.”

She filled out the form and took it up to Sidonie. When their names were called, Lincoln downed his beer, belched, and then stood up to grab her hand and lead her to the stage. When the music for “I Got You Babe” started, they turned to look at one another. Lincoln wasn’t that bad of singer. It was silly fun, but also a tad romantic.

Finally, their duet was over to the raucous cheer of the audience and Sidonie thanked everyone for participating. The stage went dark as she put away the equipment and Ghost left them to join her.

“How long have they been together?” she asked Lincoln.

“Um, four or five months, I think,” Lincoln said. “It was sometime when Chase was gone.”

Vivi cocked her head. “Gone?”

“She had a premonition or something about Thorn,” Lincoln replied. “Left him for a while.”

Everything stilled inside her as her gaze was drawn toward Chase Meade. “Premonition?”

“The Queen and Vice Queen are a little freaky,” Bolt said.

“Vice Queen?” Lincoln asked. “That’s not a thing.”

“What else do you call the wife of the VP?” Bolt pointed at him. “Vice Queen!”

“Jesus, you’re dumb.”

Bolt flipped him off. Vivi barely heard their bickering. She was focused on Chase. Did the woman have a power like her? What were the odds they’d both have a special ability? She had to know, so she rose and headed over to the other table. Chase looked up at her, smiling.

“Could I talk to you?” Vivi asked. “Privately?”

“Uh, sure,” she replied, standing. “We’ll be right back.”

The background music wasn’t that loud, but they still headed out the door into the cool night air.

“What’s up?” Chase asked.

“Lincoln said you, ah, have premonitions.”

Immediately, the smile disappeared. “I don’t know what he’s talking about.”

“Please,” Vivi said, resting a hand on her arm. “I have to know.”

“Why?”

“Because.” Vivi took a deep breath. “Because I have a power, too.”

Chase’s eyebrows shot up. “What?”

“I’ve never met anyone like me. I just thought you might have some answers.”

Chase held up a finger. “Hold that thought. I’ll be right back.”

She headed back into the bar and Vivi wondered if she’d just ruined everything. If the Vice Queen didn’t accept her, then Lincoln would have no choice but to break up with her. Then the door opened and Chase came back out and this time followed by Leia.

“Tell her what you told me,” Chase said.
