Vivi studied the map of the hospital, hoping Lincoln’s brother was working that day. Be a shame to drive here with her brilliant idea only to have it die on a proverbial map. Sighing, she turned and walked over to the information desk.

“May I help you?”

Vivi smiled at the woman behind the counter. “I’m looking for Dr. Parker Rollison. I’m his sister-in-law and I need to tell him something urgent about his brother.”

“Oh, yes, let’s see…” The woman typed on her keyboard. “He’s finishing up a surgery in OR three. I can page him for you if you’d like to sit in the waiting room.”

“Thanks,” Vivi replied.

She turned and sat in a chair facing the doors that led into the bowels of the hospital, mentally trying to compose what she was going to say to Parker. Each minute that passed felt like forever. Felt like when she had to wait and wait in that damn bedroom, staring up at the fucking ceiling. She looked upward to see if there was stippling, but it was just acoustic tiles so she went back to staring at the door. It swooshed open and closed with every person who exited, until she saw Lincoln emerge.

Only, it wasn’t Lincoln. He’d said they were identical, but wow. Vivi stood and Parker’s gaze zeroed in on her. She took a step closer and he finished striding toward her.

“You have information on my brother?”

Vivi stuck out her hand. Parker looked from it to her face and then back again, taking hold and shaking.

“My brother?” he insisted.

“I’m Vivi, your common law sister-in-law.”

Parker frowned. “I don’t think that’s a thing.”

“Maybe not legally, but it’s very much a thing.” She waved a hand in the air. “Never mind that. I came here to figure out why you and Lincoln aren’t talking.”

“Linc. The other name is what that damn club gave him.”

“You don’t like the club?”

He placed his hands on his hips as he studied her. “What I feel about the club isn’t any concern of yours.”

“Is that why you two don’t talk?”

“We don’t talk because Linc doesn’t want to talk, and I have no idea why.”

Vivi pursed her lips. “When did he stop? Talking to you, that is.”

“A couple of years ago. I’ve tried. God, have I tried.” He shook his head. “I don’t know how much you know, Vivi, but Linc had a promising career. He’s a genius with numbers. I thought he was going to do something important, but all he did was join a motorcycle club.”

“I thought the club was something he grew up in. Why did he join the Death Riders?”

Parker shrugged. “Your guess is as good as mine. He called me a few months ago, out of the blue, to help with someone in his club. Not one fucking word in years and he calls me forthem? To keep one of them from committing suicide.”

She wondered if that had to do with Thorn and Chase. “So, it’s not you, it’s him?”

“Yeah. Pretty much.”

“Okay, I can work with this,” Vivi declared. “What’s your favorite food to eat?”

“I don’t know. I’m working all the damn time.”

“I passed by a Mexican restaurant on the way here.”

“Yeah, that’s Mamá Rita’s. It’s good, from what I remember.”

Vivi clapped her hands together. “Awesome. Meet us there at seven.”
