As he headed to his bike, he pulled out his cell and called Lincoln. “Are you done there?”

“Yeah, I’m presenting my findings to Mr. Romanelli today.”

“Come home right after,” Brim ordered. “We were attacked. Bolt and Tim were killed.”

A sharp, indrawn breath rattled through the line. “I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

Brim ended the call and mounted his bike. With one last baleful glare at the clubhouse destruction, he roared away, heading to see his wounded men.

Chapter Twenty

Shock filled Lincoln, as well as a burning need to get home. Bolt was gone. Tim was gone. Whoever had done this better hope he was never discovered because every one of the Death Riders would hang him by his own intestines.

“What’s wrong?” Vivi asked.

“The clubhouse was attacked,” he said through clenched teeth. “Bolt and Tim are dead.”

She gasped. Hands went to her mouth and tears welled in her eyes. They stared at one another and he didn’t know what to say. He had no fucking idea how to cope with the loss of two of his brothers.

“We have to get back there,” she said.

Lincoln’s mind swam in a fog, and he had no idea how to surf out of it. Hands landed on his cheeks and he looked down at Vivi.

“You have to talk to Mr. Romanelli,” she said softly yet firmly. “Go, and I’ll pack us up. I’ll talk to Draco and explain what happened. As soon as you’re done, pick me up and we’ll get on the road.”

“Yeah,” he muttered, sucking in a deep, broken breath. Then he leaned down and kissed her before leaning his forehead against hers. “Thank you.”

“We’re partners,” she soothed. “I will be your strength to get through this.”

“I have no idea why you picked me, but I will never do anything to cause you to regret it.”

“It was because our auras matched,” she replied. “We were meant to be. Where you go, I go. Your pain is my pain. I didn’t know Tim, but I knew Bolt, and I mourn with you. Go. Don’t worry about anything else except your meeting.”

He closed his eyes, and it took all his strength not to cry. “I’ll be back as soon as possible.”

She nodded and he kissed her once more before leaving. Only a few people were awake and they greeted him as he left. He couldn’t talk, the words stuck in his throat, so he only nodded. Jumping into the truck cab, he turned on the engine and drove quickly away.

When he reached the Romanelli mansion, he parked and hurried up the steps. Once again, the butler, Reynolds, opened the door. His face was a stoic mask as he escorted him to Pietro’s office. He waited until Reynolds left, closing the door behind him, before he said anything.

“My club was attacked and I’ve got to get back to Cardinal, so I’ll go through my findings as quickly as I can.”

“Of course,” Pietro said. “Was anyone killed?”

“Two men,” he replied with a shaky breath. “Two brothers.”

“My condolences.”

He nodded, then pulled the laptop he’d been working on toward him. Clearing his throat, he began. The finance records for the various businesses the Romanelli mafia owned, along with the multiple accountants, were all aboveboard. Only the personal records were doctored.

“So, not the businesses. The traitor is under my roof,” Pietro concluded. “I had a feeling, and there aren’t too many people it could be.”

“Yeah,” Lincoln said. He turned the laptop around. “You can read the numbers.”

Pietro Romanelli snarled as he examined the conclusion. Then he picked up his phone and placed a call.

“Matteo, bring the staff into the sitting room,” he barked. “Including the guards at the door.”

He hung up and stood, pulling out a Glock from the top desk drawer. He marched out of the office and Lincoln followed, down the long corridor and past closed doors until they reached the sitting room. Matteo stood with his arms folded across his chest. There were a few people in servant uniforms, and the two guards that had greeted Lincoln when he’d arrived. Pietro stared intently at each person.
