“Edgar? Really?” Adam snorted.
“Okay, fine, girls then,” I suggested.
“Chloe and Chelsea,” he said.
“No, those are two close together,” I argued.
Adam let out a belly laugh. “You’re impossible.”
“We’ll get some baby name books in the morning,” I suggested.
“Good idea,” Adam said, yawning widely.
“Now, I don’t want you getting the idea thatIdo relationships,” I joked, and Adam let out another laugh.
He was asleep within moments after that, snoring softly against my ear.
I stayed awake for a while longer, leaning back against him. I loved the feeling of his arms around me, but part of me was still worried that he might leave in the middle of the night.
I finally fell asleep, waking up the second he stirred and went to the bathroom. I held my breath for a brief second, relieved when I heard the toilet flush and the sink run. He came back into the bedroom and I pretended that I was still asleep..
“Katie?” Adam called softly.
I didn’t open my eyes, my heart pounding, waiting on what he would say.
He crawled back into bed but didn’t take me into his arms.
“I’m kind of freaking out,” he admitted.
I cracked open one eye and turned over. “What about?”
He chuckled. “Aren’t there plenty of reasons?”
“About the babies?” I asked, propping up on one elbow.
He shrugged. “Not so much about the babies. It’s more about you.”
“Why are you freaking out about me?” I asked.
“Probably because I’ve never felt this way before,” he admitted, and my heart skipped a beat.
“You haven’t?”
“Never,” he admitted.
“Not even Colin’s mom?”
Adam scoffed. “I barely even knew her. Definitely not enough to care for her.” His eyes widened as the words left his mouth.
“You care for me?” I asked, unable to stop myself from smiling.
“I care about you so much,” he said, then covered his face with a pillow.
I pulled the pillow away from his face and he was blushing.
“Are you blushing?” I asked, laughing.
“No, maybe,” Adam muttered, but he was smiling. “I’m serious, I’ve never been this close to a woman before.”
