“I think that’s what they’re counting on,” Christian said. Once the officer left, he turned to Andi. “It’s a Riddler riddle.”

She arched a brow. “LikeBatmanRiddler?”

“Yeah. Ethan and I used to read them when we were in juvie.”

“What do you think it means?”

“He views what he’s doing as getting justice for himself. And by trying to harm me, in his mind, I’m getting the justice I deserve.”

“He’s crazy.”

“Or so warped by revenge, he doesn’t see the magnitude of what he’s doing.”

Climbing into their rental car, he pulled out of the lot. “I’ll update Greyson on the way to the hotel.”

“Good idea,” she said.

“Hey, Greyson,” he said when Greyson answered the call.

“How’d it go?”

“We didn’t get much information from the cops, but we couldn’t expect much more, given the circumstances. We’re going to stay put in case they hit any other galleries. Headed to the hotel now.”

“Makes sense.”

“Have you heard from Deckard and Harper today?” he asked.

“Yes, have you? Did he tell you what happened?”

Christian frowned. “No, I haven’t had the chance. What happened?”

Greyson hesitated.

“Tell them,” Riley said in the background. “Or I will.”

Greyson exhaled. “They were fired on at Harper’s condo.”

Andi lurched forward. “What?”

“They’re fine. Still went to Boston, a little later than planned, and should make it back tonight.”

“But they won’t go back to her place, will they?”

“No. They are coming to stay at my place, as is Riley.”

“Under duress,” Riley said in the background.

“Thanks, Greyson. I wouldn’t want her alone out on the ranch.”

“Don’t worry. Go get settled in your hotel and keep us posted.”

“Will do.”

Hanging up, he and Andi looked at each other. How much crazier could things possibly get?

A half hour later, they’d checked into their hotel for the night, getting adjacent rooms.

They’d just entered their rooms when Christian’s cell rang. He glanced at the screen. “It’s Deckard.”
