While sitting at my desk with Simba at my side, watching the sunset, my mind raced over the events of the day after meeting Liv. I thought the name suited her and couldn’t help but wonder why she looked so familiar.

The touch I still felt on my hand had been electrifying down to my body’s core. Feeling a tug on my jeans as I let my imagination take over, I remembered her plump lips. In my mind, I leaned over and took them for myself. Her spicy, sweet scent made chills of pure lust go up my spine.

I snapped out of it when Simba started to lick my hands and grow impatient until he finally barked at me. I opened my eyes. “What is it, buddy?” I asked as I rubbed the dog between the ears. Simba kept pacing until I let him inside the house.

As I began to shut the door, a noise caught my attention. I leaned my head out the door and looked around. My brows pinched with curiosity; I glanced over in Liv’s direction. I raised an eyebrow as I spotted her relaxing in a rocking chair, eyes closed with only a towel on.

I caught my breath at the sight of her as I quickly stepped back inside the door and swiftly closed it. Heat started to form within me as my brain snapped a picture of her to record within my memory. Flustered, I ran my fingers through my hair and made the dish to take to the party as promised.

Pulling out my mom’s recipe for zesty meatballs, I read over the items needed and set everything out on the counter. I cursed myself for promising the meatballs, knowing it would take an hour just to roll the balls out and triple the recipe. I sang along to a Carly Simon song as I worked the hamburger into little one-inch balls.

Satisfied with the three large cookie sheets of meatballs, I put them in the oven to bake while making three more sheets. When I finished adding the secret sauce, I placed the meatballs gently into three large deep casserole dishes and then into the oven to bake. Meanwhile, I turned on the timer and retreated to my bedroom to get ready for the party.

Although Nicole was having the party at the country club, she could bring food in because she reserved a private room. Derrick preferred buffet style when having a party and had a few favorites from family and friends, which is why Nicole had decided to take this route instead of having it catered by the venue.

Looking in the mirror to adjust my tie, I looked flustered, so I walked away while shaking my head, knowing that Liv had already gotten under my skin.

I wanted her.

Looking around the room, I was happy we showed up two hours early to decorate; more than that, I was over the moon that Beth was able to help. She had been a force to be reckoned with when it came to decorating the country club for the surprise party.

I looked over at my friend; her thick body, full of shape and curves, looked adorable in her blue sundress. I knew she was self-conscious of her size, but I thought she was picture-perfect, her hair a deep red, full of ringlets that most would die for from a bottle, let alone naturally. Her electric blue dress accentuated her porcelain skin, as did the locks of hair. While I still had time, I quickly snapped a candid picture for memory's sake and put my phone down.

“Well, I think we did it. Everything looks great,” Beth said. I looked at Beth and agreed everything looked amazing.

“Nicole, are you doing anything with your hair?” Beth teased.

“Well, I suppose,” I said, sticking my tongue out at her.

“Not everyone has the beauty of hair that looks wonderful all messed up.” I finished in a huff, blowing up my face to swipe the bangs that covered my eyes out of the way.

The waitstaff would be on hand to replenish drinks or support any special requests. All that was left to do was to go home and get ready to entertain. I looked down at my clothesand smiled, knowing my shorts and stone crab shirt wouldn’t serve well for the evening.

“Okay, you, I’m heading out; meet you back here?” I hugged Beth, and as she agreed, we hopped into our cars and headed off. I had to get home, shower, and get my man ready for his birthday dinner; at least, that’s what he thought. What he didn’t know was it was a surprise birthday dinner with all his friends. I was exhausted already.

“Hey, Siri.”

“Yes, Nicole. How can I help you?”

“Dial my brother.”

“Dialing my brother.”

I couldn’t help but laugh at how Siri talked and repeated everything. At times it drove me nuts; other times it was comical as shit, especially if I was tired.

“Hi, bro. Do you need any help getting the meatballs to the country club?” I couldn’t help but smile when I heard my brother's voice. We had grown up close to each other, and he could be a ball of fire when he needed to be, but I could hold my own with him.

“I’m good, sis. I’ll be there in time to set them up before the birthday boy arrives. How are you getting him there anyway?”

“I told him we were meeting a potential client for his financial advisory group.” I could hear Parker laugh at how I had tricked him into getting there. He knew, as I did, that getting Derrick out only required mention of financials and his business, and he was there.

“He bought that?” Parker asked.

“What are you doing? It’s so loud there.”
