I smiled at him and wished he didn’t need to go. “I’ll be here. I’m going to answer a few emails; I have a shoot coming up and need to get the full details.” I thought for a moment, then continued, “Bring Simba back when you come. It’s nice having him around.”

“You sure? I can leave him at home.”

“No, it’s fine. Let him be with us instead of alone all afternoon. I’ll leave the slider open, and he can lay in the bed I got him.”

Parker smiled, kissed the top of my head, and headed out for his run. I decided to let the emails wait and do some yoga instead, to work out the kinks in my body.

After 45 minutes of yoga, I felt stronger and more centered as I went to shower. Humming while the water ran over my body, I felt peaceful. Once done, I rummaged through clothes, wishing I had a more casual wardrobe at times.

Deep in the back of the closet, I found the perfect shirt. It was a t-shirt, but one of my favorites, in light baby pink with ruffled sleeves and a little pocket outlined with a ruffle. I pulled the t-shirt over my head, put a thong on, and some jean shorts.

Satisfied, I went into the kitchen, grabbed some water, and then to the table where my desktop computer sat. Rolling my eyes, I knew I’d need to make one of the spare bedrooms an office; the thing was, though, I didn’t need an office in my line of work. After reading the details of my next photoshoot, I was more than disappointed: I’d need to be in Miami for two weeks.

I flipped the computer off.I’ll take care of that another day,I thought to myself as I walked out to the lanai and jumped in the Globo. I skimmed through social media, uploaded a new book on Kindle, and finally started reading. It was by Erin FitzGerald, something about a cowboy series that all the other models raved about. I was sure it would be my jam, so I started it.

After the first three paragraphs, I went back to the cover.“Something Lost,”I read and shook my head. Yes, most excellent. I knew I’d have a hard time putting this one down.

I didn’t hear Parker or Simba come in, but I could smell Parks’ scent and knew he was nearby at once. As I was about to get up, he walked out to the lanai, leaned over, and kissed me.

“How was your run?” I asked while petting Simba.

“It was good; I needed it. Did you get the details for your shoot and emails caught up?”

I sighed. “I did read the details. I’ll deal with it another day.” I’m sure my face twisted in distaste, remembering it was a longer-than-usual shoot.

He looked at me, his brow up. “Something bothering you?”

I laid the Kindle down and sat next to him, resting my head on his shoulder. “It’s a longer shoot than I wanted to take on. I hadn’t realized when accepting it that it would mean my presence in Miami is needed for almost three weeks.”

He rubbed my thigh and tilted his head with a small smile. “It’ll be okay. It’s two months away, and it’s only for a few weeks. I can always drive down to visit.”

I smiled at that. The fact that he knew what was bothering me most, being apart from him, made me warm inside. “Let’s go get us some lobster. What do you say?” I stood and took his hand to nudge him; after walking through and locking up the house we looked at Simba, and both laughed at his anticipation. His ears were alert, his head was high, and his nose was pointed toward the door as he stood guard.

“Simba, want to go for a ride?” The dog wagged his tail excitedly as he followed us to the truck. Feeling like a kid, I hopped in. The truck was so big I felt like a kid and looked like one next to it. I wondered how anyone could drive such a large vehicle as we drove in silence toTwin Lobstersin the middle of town.

Once there, we picked out four giant lobsters and some little necks and decided to pick up some oysters as well. Satisfied with our purchase, we headed home. I spotted a little sidewalk sale and wished I’d seen it on the way so we could have stopped.

My phone dinged, letting me know of an incoming text. It was from El.

Hey girl, in the area with Anthony,

thought it would be nice to stop in

for a glass of wine, maybe make the

boating and seafood feast a tad

less uncomfortable for him to meet

you first. What do you say, lovie?

I quickly read the text to Parker with enthusiasm.

“Let’s do lunch with the four of them. That way, all the formalities will be over, and everyone can simply enjoy boating.”
